Day 5

How is it only day 5? All today I was like... after tomorrow's classes, I am going to Machu Picchu! I'm really excited, obviously.

I cannot express to you how freaking cold I am. Already, as I put on my pajamas, I am dreading tomorrow morning when I will have to take a shower in the super cold. How depressing is that? So, I still have like 16 tortuous shower mornings to go.... uh, how depressing is that too? I just wish I could be warm in the house or warm in the bathroom and not feel FREEZING. ANYWAY!

Today for breakfast was a banana and bred with stuff that was kind of like nutella but just kind of tasted sweet and not chocolatey and it was a lighter brown.

Morning class we went over a little of relative pronouns and then we read this paper thing about technology and the future and discussed it. During the second morning classes, we each read our little biography things and talked just randomly for a while and then we read an excerpt from this story about a deacon who wanted to learn magic but turned out to be a jerk.

I walked a different way home from school today. But before I turned from my regular path, I stopped in on some book stores because I want to bring some stuff back... I tried to buy this one book that was 11.50 soles, but when I tried to pay with 20 soles, she told me no. Uh, seriously, you cannot make change? Whatever. There is like a kids book store two or three shops over from that other one and I think I might buy a bunch of stuff from there before I go because there are lots of storybook coloring books and I can make copies of them if I buy them cause there is no copyright on them. HA!

Anyway, my different way home was to turn down Calle Huascar instead of crossing it, and it turns out there is this huge open air (kind of?) market down that street and I want to check it out later. I might check it out tomorrow before lunch if I have time.

In my private class, first we talked a little bit about relative pronouns, and then we talked a lot about all the different verbs for "become".... which for me is a really difficult topic so I'm glad we talked about it.

After the afternoon classes were over, Natascha, Caitlin and I went to the Plaza de Armas and there were all these kids in cool Peruvian outfits doing group dances in the street. I think they were just doing like a practice for the upcoming parades and stuff, but I don't know. We met Anne and went out to eat our cheapest set meal yet! I had cream spinach soup, a vegetable omelet, and a little chocolate pancake thing that was really thin and had chocolate sauce drizzled over it. 8 soles! Take that! Less than 3 American dollars for all that. I all the omelet and pancake but the soup was so enormous it was never going to work.

Maria is still the only person who responds to my emails. I will weep in self-pity. I also reeeally have to remember to bring this to school tomorrow! I also really want not to be cold.

I am going to Machu Picchu the day after tomorrow!!!
