[ There was even a place for tea! ]

It was naturally assumed that Aerith would take an immediate interest in the books that littered the Magician's Study. Cloud had perched himself away from the majority of the stacks, sat down his weapon, and listened for the sound of rapidly turning pages accompanies by occasional comments. When she, instead, seated herself nearby he gave her the girl a interested glance; Unexpected for her to take an interest in him rather than the surrounding area.

Probably more unusual still was the obvious effort to spark a conversation between then. He rarely every had conversations unless provoked into it, even with people he knew pretty well. It seemed kind of a stretch to outright compare herself to an inconvenience of all things if all she wanted to do was talk. That in itself earned fleeting look of displeasure, though the glance was passed off while he looked at the opposing wall rather than Aerith.

"It's been a little while." Cloud acknowledged. Everyone was caught up in their own affairs and concentrating on surviving, simple things like talking to one another always got set aside for later. Unfortunately, it usually constituted years between times they could speak to one another for more than a few minutes at a time. Even when he and Aerith had spoken before, it was more of a business chat than anything-She'd been sent to get him, talked about what she was doing in Traverse Town, offered him a slot in her new business and that was where the conversation was left. Not once was there mention of what she had been doing, how she was doing, or any other small detail they took for granted back when meeting each other was a daily occurrence. Everyone of his former 'close comrades' up to this point had followed the same pattern; as much as he disliked it, it was understandable nonetheless.

Allayed for the most part, the solider even began to slouch forward instead of sitting up correctly. Even if all the relaxation he got out of this was getting off his feet, that was fine. Rather than this not be one of those 'meetings in passing' which seemed the case beforehand, putting off rest was no big issue. Besides, sleep was an often enough occurrence, whereas actually getting to speak to one of his friends like this had become rather rare. "How've you been?" Sort of a generic question, but since talking was so infrequent, better start at square one.
