The sun was still high in the sky, even though Quistis had been on the island for quite some time already. It was the most relaxed she had been in recent memory, so there was no rush to leave. The peace and quiet also added to the incentive to stay - silence like this was hard to come by. Thoughts could be dealt with completely before they were replaced by new ones.
Quistis was now sitting on the sand, leaning back on her arms as she looked out over the water. With a little bit of imagination, it did look like the beach by Balamb. And if you concentrated really hard, it was almost possible to imagine it really was, and that the Heartless had yet to appear.
Almost. Some things are harder to forget than others.
A small fishing boat by the horizon became Quistis' point of focus as it moved slowly from east to west. She was so absorbed in it that a noise behind her caused more surprise than usual, making her to jump to her feet quickly and turn to the direction of the sound, one hand going instinctively to the whip at her side.
