Swirling colors resolved into familiar constellations as the ship dropped out of warp. With no other gummis in the area, Belle hurtled toward the world below at full burn, slowing just enough to allow for a safe landing at the end. The second the landing gear touched down the hatch sprung open, and Belle sprinted across the courtyard and into the vast main entrance of the castle.
As her eyes adjusted to the interior gloom, she saw Adam's supine form exactly as it had been in the mirror. He hadn't moved. Panic rose in Belle's chest as she fell down beside him, but as soon as she got close she could hear his breath. It was quiet and shallow, but it was there. Belle lay her hands on Adam's broad back. There was warmth there. He was badly hurt, but he was still alive.
Not knowing what else to do, she rested her head on her husband's shoulder and began to cry. She didn't want to leave his side, and soon Sora would be done and could return to heal whatever was wrong with Adam's body. But what about his mind and heart? Belle knew her husband's territorial tendencies, but what could make him so addled that he would think Sora, one of his best friends, a threat?
No answers came. The hall remained silent except for the rumble of Adam's breath and Belle's occasional sobs.
