"All worlds begin in darkness, and all so end."
Four years ago, dozens of worlds stood poised on the brink of obliteration. More had already fallen. The hordes of darkness were advancing, striking at the hearts of the worlds they encountered, and as the worlds fell, the stars winked out one by one. A crazed man stood before a young hero and told him that there was no hope. With the strength of his heart, the Keyblade Master defeated the seeker of darkness and restored the worlds that had been conquered. The people rejoiced, thinking their struggle had ended.
Unfortunately, they were not so lucky. Only two months passed between the end of the first attack wave and the beginning of the second. The heroes had believed that the war was over, but they couldn't have been more wrong. The second wave of Heartless attacks was stronger, more brutal, and heralded a longer, more protracted war. More worlds found themselves under attack and more innocent people found their hearts stolen, becoming Heartless themselves.
As the war began anew, the Princesses of Heart whose power had been usurped during the first war banded together and took action. They formed the War Council at Hollow Bastion, coordinating the efforts of the hastily reorganized Hollow Bastion military (now more of a volunteer militia made up of those who have made their way back to their world) and doing their best to help those worlds in danger from the Heartless threat. With the unswerving support of the Keyblade Master and his companions, the forces in support of Light continue to fight the war on all fronts.
However, for every battle won, two more are lost for lack of fighters. The troops under the War Council's tacit command are not enough to fight everywhere at once, and the darkness is spreading. The heroes of the first war do all that they can, each in their own ways, but darkness is a furtive thing; it lurks everywhere, even in people's hearts. Only now, four years after the first phase of the war ended, are the disasterous ramifications of former King Ansem's obsession with darkness coming to light.
For some the battle lines remain clear; Light is on one side, Darkness on the other, and nothing can cross the line between them. For others, however, right and wrong are not so easy to deduce.
Welcome to the story of heroes, villains, and the people in between. The Light takes different forms, but it affects every one of them, whether they know it or not.
May it shine upon them.
Luceat Eis.
