'For one who had traveled from spectral realm to material realm and back again, between not only different locations but different times in Nosgoth's twisted history, the portal of darkness offered little to fear.'

'Or, so I had thought. A subtle distinction was not lost to me; before, it had been my own volition which had moved me ever closer to my inevitable doom. Now? Now I had been pulled along by a power greater than my own, and the darkness which had shrouded my path was... unnerving. I was free of the parasite, even the slightest hint of his voice had been obliterated from my mind, but it seemed that I had merely exchanged one master for another.'

'A master which shared Kain's propensity for Gothic magnificence, if this place was any indication. Darkness fit the room like a funeral shroud over a corpse, spiders having made their abode long ago and just as long ago abandoned it as unfit for their habitation. And yet this place was to be my new 'home'? It seemed I, the first to escape the confines of my dying world, was singularly ill-starred.'

The wraith gazed around the room, his eyes glowing even more brightly than usual as he took in the full measure of the new locale. While he was used to darkened mansions and the like, there was a distinct feel to the air that made him wary; the fact that his 'guide' had been quiet for so long was another cause for concern.

But for now, his best hope was to wait until he was called to heel. It was either that, or face Slade and the Soul Reaver, neither of which was a particularly enticing option.
