Trying to defend people in Hollow Bastion from darkness almost made Ansem's research sound like a noble purpose. Maybe it had started out that way, but as stated, the end result didn't seem to share the same noble underlining. Even if it started with that intent in mind, that didn’t change anything.
Aside from some said wild theories, there didn’t seem to be much within the content of the Ansem reports that were being explained to be usable. Personal account, on the other hand, was the more valid form of information on darkness. Cloud had..quite enough of personal accounts to satisfy that branch of curiosity. The possibility that some part of their experiences could be helpful didn't mean he was so eager to hear either of their accounts. Chances were it would be more upsetting than helpful, considering who's "account" they were they were coming from.
No one else seemed to jump at the offer of inquiring about it either, perhaps they were waiting for him to continue further. So as they did, so did he.
