Curse you Dr. Pilcher!
BAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It would be great if I could just strangle one of my professors right now!!! I didn't like her all that much to begin with but now I really can't stand her. She is the most unfair, ridiculous, annoying, etc professors I have ever had. So the reason for all this venting- Last thursday, (a day that I have her class) I decided to skip her class because I needed to study for a huge biology test that I was having on Friday. This is the only time I have missed her class. I have come every other class period, done my assignments, turned them in on time, etc. I feel that I have been a pretty good student. In fact I KNOW that I have been a good student. This particular professor has a different way of grading. We don't have any tests, instead we read our two books, and write a summary/reflection of what we read, along with a bi-weekly reflection paper on what we have discussed in class. Then each grade (A, B, C, D, and F) have different criteria. To get an A, you can miss 2 classes, you can turn a certain number of the papers in late, you must do a health behaviors project, and read and write a summary on an additional book. To get a B, you get one more absence, a few more late papers, and you have to do the health behaviors project. To get a C, the health behaviors project is not required. So....in the syllabus it says that March 8 was the final day to decide on the topic for our project and that we were going to disucss it in class. This was the day I missed. Because I was so stressed out about my biology test, I forgot to email her that day to tell her that I was going to miss class, and tell her what I was doing for my project. Well, I finally remembered to email her on tuesday and told her what I was going to do for my project. She emailed me back tellling me that she was now in the position to allow me to do the project or not!!!! What the crap?!?! I have never had a professor say that I couldn't do a project just because I wasn't in class the day we had to decide what to do it on. Most professors are leniant and don't really care if you were in class as long as you do the project. Not her though! She told me I had to write her an email and convince her to let me do the project now. Well, I immediately started typing my response. I did save it, re read it, and revised it before I sent it to her. My main premise was that it was not stated in the syllabus that we had to be in class in order to do the project and get credit for it. I went much further into detail, but she emailed me back basically saying that my argument was not convincing, that it says march 8 is the last day to decide on the project, and that I was just asking for her to do me a favor. She was right that it says that march 8th is the last day to decide on the subject of our project, but it NO WHERE says that we had to attend class that day to be able to do the project. The biggest thing for me is, that I have been planning on making an A all semester. I read the extra book, am 2/3 of my way through with my paper, and I meet all the other requirements for an A. Just because I missed this one specific day, now means that the highest grade I can make is a C. Does that not seem ridiculous to dock my grade 2 letter grades just for missing a specific class, when it was not specified that we had to be there? Not to mention if I had missed any other day I would still definently be making an A, and still have 1 absence left!! AHHHH! I really just want to punch her in the face right now! Or strangle her, or idk....This is just so ridiculous. She will be getting an AWFUL evaluation from me, and I WILL be putting my whole story down on the form as well. ARRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!
