Dominion's End v6

Welp, looks like LJ crossposts aren't currently working. Checked support tickets and it looks like it's definitely a common problem, if not site wide. Hope it's not a big issue to fix.

Dominion's End v6 is here! It's been about 2 years since the last book~. I uh... don't remember v5 that well. I definitely feel v3 was the most memorable.

Special edition included pins of Dage and Junjun, and a standing acrylic of Shuyu. Cover features Jin Feng. (In the end, she does show up a bit, but she isn't central to this volume)

Insert pullout features Thirteen and Beibei. I definitely did not picture Thirteen to have long, red hair. He reminds me of the Dictator of Life with his appearance. :3;;

First character intro is of Thirteen. Can see his clawed feet better in this one. And his tail.

Beibei and Jin Zhan.

Some spoilerish thoughts on v6:

This is the book of flashbacks. Flashbacks galore! Yu Wo does mention that she felt Guan Weijun had taken a backseat after Shuyu regained his memories, when his experiences as Guan Weijun made him who he is now. So, she wanted to show more of Guan Weijun in v6... I suppose flashbacks is a way to do that. XD;; But the flashbacks don't just stop there with showing us Guan Weijun's life. There's also flashbacks in the present. We start in media res with Shuyu killing five people silently, no explanation given. Then we go backwards in time and learn that the Shangguan family has sent 400 troops to attack their base, and Shuyu takes his squad to kill all the scouts, hoping to thin out their soldiers. Then we go backwards in time yet again and learn just how Shuyu convinced Tai Wen and others to stay and fight despite being greatly outnumbered (finally, Shuyu is showing his strength... to a select few). I suppose these aren't exactly flashbacks, but the jumping around in time is an interesting choice.

The flashbacks to Guan Weijun's life happen through several different means: Shuyu blanking out when an experience reminded him of something, Shuyu falling unconscious (twice), and Shuyu asking to get attacked mentally. So many flashbacks. XD;; We get to learn more of Xiao Qi and meet this guy that Guan Weijun rescued and thus became super loyal to her (and probably loved her). I hope we get to meet that guy! Shuyu kills tons of the Shangguan soldiers, only to realize that his comrade from his previous life could have been among them. Even if they meet again in this life though... without their previous life experiences, I feel their relationship wouldn't be the same at all. It's going to be hard for Shuyu!

Meanwhile, Dage is conveniently absent from all the action. XD;;; Still stuck in Lan City negotiating with Jin Zhan while everything is going down. So their plan is to hold for three days to wait for Dage's return. So... this whole book spans less than 3 days basically.

My second impression of this book after "flashbacks galore!" is SO MANY FIGHTS. It's basically nonstop fighting outside of flashbacks. First, it's Shuyu attacking the scouts with his squad, then defending against the 400 troops, then working with the Shangguan troops against a horde of aberrants that ambush them, then fighting against Thirteen...

Oh right, Thirteen returns. \o\ He totally dotes on Beibei. Who is somehow under the impression that Shuyu is her brother, and she really wants him back.

This is also the book where a bunch of characters show up again. Lots of threads coming together. In addition to Thirteen returning at the end, we get a glimpse of Wu Yaojin near the beginning, who seems to have probably sold weapons to the Shangguan family. (Crystal weapons that use evolution crystals to power them, yikes) A super strong guy accompanies him, but we don't learn who he is. Shuyu pretty much flies into a rage at the sight of Wu Yaojin but can't do anything.

Jin Zhan, Jin Feng, and their little sis who clearly also has memories of her previous life, show up near the end too. I hope we get to learn more about that little sis now that they're all in the same place and on the same side. She still doesn't feel trustworthy though, and blabs information without a care that others will realize something's off about her.

Some other threads revisited:

I'm glad Shuyu finally shows off his strength. But he wears a mask while doing so to hide his identity. :'D I guess he's now called Ice Spear or something like that, since he didn't think of a name on his own and couldn't bring himself to say call him Ice Emperor. I guess Shuyu is the secretive expert that the title of this volume eludes to.

The 200 citizens that were offered haven back in v4 completely turn face here, opting to join the Shangguans after their promise of safety instead of staying with the JDT who keep threatening them... more of the citizens that came with Guan Weijun and Tai Wen stayed. I guess since those people had a closer community than the random people Ah Nuo and Chen Yanqing saved? That sure put a big blow to their numbers though... The grandpa though. You go gramps.

Shuyu's conflicted about killing so many people since he knows they'll need all the people they can get in the future to win against the aberrants, yet they're currently getting attacked, so he has no choice but to fight back. But then he remembers a huge, powerful aberrant near the beginning of the apocalypse that was only defeated thanks to the complete annihilation of the Shangguan family, with Xiao Sha's brother leading them. Even though in his previous life he did everything he could to run out of the city, and even though they were enemies just a moment prior, Shuyu makes the decision to head into the fire, to save Xiao Sha's brother, to save the Shangguan family and thousands of soldiers from getting completely wiped out, and to save Guan Weijun's comrades from the previous life that she hasn't met yet in this one.

I think that's where the next volume is leading! We also have a preview of the next volume, which is titled "The Second Coming of the Black Fog." Eeps, one year since the black fog! I'm excited to see what will result this time.

Also, Xiaorong is still the cutest.
