Kiyu and I created a series to link everything together on AO3 for the cake verse~~. Cake verse now officially has a name. XD;; (But I bet it'll still be caaaake to many)
Until the End of Time The series is named in such a way because of
this scene from the manhua (Rule 20) where we spent forever trying to figure out what Lesus would say to Grisia as a vow. It can't be "until death do us part" because yeah, death isn't going to part them~. And now that the verse is continuing into present time with reincarnation, "Until the End of Time" it was! I'm excited. Seeing these fics linked like this makes me want to toss more side stories in there. XD; Kiyu already has one up~.
Most of the anime series I was watching over the spring and summer have ended! Here's what I finished watching. I didn't finish watching a lot.
Spring/Summer 2014 Anime!!
Haikyuu!!
Hinata joins Karasuno, the volleyball team that had the "Small Giant" that made Hinata fall in love with volleyball. Only, he discovers that his rival is also on the same team.
Haikyuu!! is ADORABLE. I started following the manga last year and loved it, so you bet I was excited to hear that Haikyuu!! was getting an anime. It has so much charm to it. The characters are endearing and super expressive, and the details in the art are just breathtaking. When the anime finally started airing at 2 am on Sundays, I stayed up the first few weeks to watch the episodes. XD; The animation is gorgeous! I'm super happy that the adaption of Haikyuu!! was such high quality. The anime really brought in a lot of new fans! I slowly stopped staying up to watch Haikyuu!! but the anime was consistently high quality. Hinata is a great main character. So lively. But even though he's the happy-go-lucky type, he's also very reflective! (I love his narrations about seeing the view from the top). Kageyama's growth was touching to see. The point in the manga that made me go from liking the series to loving the series was when Kageyama tried to imitate Suga to be a better setter. From trying to smile (and failing), trying to compliment his teammates (and failing), and giving high fives!! It was just amazing to see his transformation, and it was just as touching in anime form as it was in manga form. There were several episodes that made me go wow, that is amazing storytelling. This series really knew how to present itself!
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Sakura confesses to Nozaki only for him to mistake that she wanted his autograph. She discovers that he is the famous shoujo mangaka, Yumeno-sensei.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES. WATCH IT. READ IT. I've always been a fan of Tsubaki Izumi because of Oresama Teacher, which I adore. She is just so good at humor and at writing shoujo that doesn't focus on romance. Oresama Teacher really has a bit of everything! Crossdressing! Secret identities! Delinquents! Humor abound~ (I so hope that it will one day get an anime adaption. I can dream right??? Since Gekkan Shoujo got an anime, it doesn't seem as wild a dream anymore!). I actually like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun less than Oresama Teacher and was a bit disappointed to learn that it was Gekkan Shoujo that was getting the anime treatment because... well, there isn't that much of Gekkan Shoujo available? But wow, the anime really adapted this 4koma series well! I loved it! Burst out loud laughing week-to-week. XD The anime really made me like Sakura a lot~~. I adore her design (seriously, I love her ribbons and thigh high socks), and her voice was really cute. Actually, I grew to like all of the characters a lot more because of the anime. I felt I was able to see their dynamics with each other a lot better than just through four panels each time. :3;; There were certain scenes I wish had made it into the anime (otome game!!!!). I hope we one day see more of this series in anime form! (Mikorin is super cute)
Ao Haru Ride
Futaba and Tanaka liked each other in middle school but missed their chance. They reunite in high school, but it seems that Tanaka, who now no longer goes by that name, has changed.
This is pure shoujo. I've read Strobe Edge before, another series by the same mangaka, Sakisaka Io, but I've never read Ao Haru Ride. I liked the flashbacks to middle school. The pure romance was cute, as was the way the flashbacks were colored with a soft feel. Futaba is a fairly endearing main character (straightforward, willing to change, supportive), and the rest of the main cast are likeable too. It's just so... slow moving, haha. I think I'm more into josei than shoujo nowadays, with the focus being on stuff other than romance (like their job or something. Must be because I'm growing old myself XDDDD). I did appreciate just how close Futaba and Kou became. Kou helped her become truer to herself, and she helped him become comfortable with himself too. Seems to be the start of a good relationship! (But I read comments that there's drama to come in the future of this manga....)
Free! Eternal Summer
Haru and Makoto worry about their futures as they continue swimming with the team.
Yeaaah, I don't know how to summarize the season. But anyway! S2 focused a lot on Samezuka. I was surprised! But no protests here~. I watched the first episode before my flight to Anime Expo in July, and then I watched episodes 1-2 at Anime Expo. It was quite an experience watching with a crowd and hearing so many people screaming. XD; My favorite character is Rin (rival characters always do me in, and have you seen it when he puts up his hair in that tiny ponytail XDD). He got a lot of screen time in this season! He's really mellowed since S1 and feels like a completely different person, more like how he was when he was a kid. He took to the role of captain well~~. I'm proud, haha. I thought it was really adorable when Haru and the others wanted to show Rin the pool filled with sakura petals~. The focus on each of the characters was cool (though it did start feeling a little episodic then). I didn't like Sousuke much at all in the beginning, but he grew on me, and by the time his back story was revealed, I was tearing up. Oh how well you are at pulling heartstrings, Kyoani... Momo was adorable! The Mikoshiba brothers were amusing, haha.
I was rooting for Samezuka to win the relay. XDD;;;;
Last episode felt very cheesy to me. =P
I'm currently still following Sword Art Online II, Ace of Diamond, and Sailor Moon Crystal.
Sword Art Online II
Not much to say... I like the opening song a lot! As for the series itself, the pacing is really dragged out, and Kirito is as overpowered as ever. =P The concepts are cool though.
Ace of Diamond
I caught up with the anime a few weeks back, and then I caught up with what I could of the manga (though now I'm behind again). I read like... 40 something volumes? Haruichi is super cute. |D;; I think I have a thing for pink/purple haired guys with bangs hiding their eyes now. (Thanks Demos...) My first time around with the manga, I couldn't get into it. I love underdog teams, and Seidou is definitely not it! But this was a case of the anime making me appreciate the characters a lot more (the music! the voice acting!), so I grew more interested in their story. I adore the three first years~. Really happy for Ace of Diamond that the anime got an extension. I was pretty sure I knew where the anime would end because there's a clean cut off point in the manga, but now... maybe there will be more?
Sailor Moon Crystal
This only comes out every two weeks, so not a lot of episodes are out! The animation has not been very high quality. Sad, especially for such a nostalgic series that so many people were looking forward to. I don't actually remember much of the old anime (and I don't think I ever finished watching it all), so I don't really have much to compare. Despite the animation, I feel Sailor Moon Crystal has been fairly enjoyable. I look forward to Usagi gathering all of the senshi! And I can't wait to see how far the anime will take us. Sailor Jupiter was my favorite senshi. I look forward to seeing how she's like in this version. (Watching Sailor Moon reaaaally makes me want to write a reincarnation fic based on a similar premise. Yes, I do plan on writing magical boy transformation LSK fic one day. Now, who will be the Tuxedo Mask-like character~~)
I started some other series but didn't keep up with them. Barakamon (because it's not available on Crunchyroll), Love Stage!! (I only watched two episodes), Zankyou no Terror (first episode didn't interest me. Don't know if the rest is more interesting?), Glasslip (first episode didn't interest me), Bakumatsu Rock (I might watch more of this). Oh! I'm also behind on Baby Steps. =x I marathoned through the manga and then stopped with the anime... But! I was really surprised that the anime pretty much stuck faithfully to the manga, and that there will even be a second season! Awesomeness!
Upcoming season
Next season, I'm looking forward to a bunch of anime! (Let's see how many I keep up with, haha)
World Trigger - I might take a look. Haven't read the manga before, but new shounen!
Nanatsu no Taizai - I might take a look. I read a few chapters of the manga. It might be one of those series that I try to watch but end up falling behind on. XD; Like Fairy Tail.
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji - Will definitely try watching! I read the manga. It's fairly straightforward shoujo with a naive girl and a mean guy, haha.
Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road - Will definitely watch! Yay, season 2~.
Akatsuki no Yona - WILL DEFINITELY WATCH. Ahhhhh, one of Kusanagi Mizuho's series is getting animated~~~!! (I love NG Life!) Also, dragons~~~! I collect the manga (though I was behind with reading). Now, I've caught back up again~. I just... hope the anime is done well. :3;; So far, the images that have been released look pretty good, so here's hoping? I hope I don't get too disappointed...
Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle - I enjoyed S1! Here's looking forward to S2!
Shigatsu no Kimi no Uso - Haven't read the manga, but sounds interesting? Might check out.
Log Horizon 2 - Will definitely watch. I adored S1! Went out and bought a few of the novels after the anime ended.
Magic Kaito 1412 - Will definitely watch. I don't know what the series is going to be like, since a lot of the manga had already been animated as Detective Conan specials, but heeeeyyyy, more Kaito! I won't complain. XD;
I'm definitely much more of a manga person than an anime person. :3;;; A lot of anime I'm interested in is adapted from manga, or I just end up reading the manga instead of continuing with the anime... ANYWAY. I'm looking forward to next season!
