Dominion's End v1 thoughts

Finished reading Dominion's End v1. It was basically content that Yu Wo had already plurked! She wasn't kidding that she'd written a volume's worth of content already in her plurks. I wondered if we would get a bit more of the story in the printed version, but nope. Still, I reread what was written and got sucked right back in. Tried to ponder why (sometimes Yu Wo's stories start out a bit slow, such as GOD and Kill No More. Even LSK for me. And No Hero too... So actually, most of her stories, in my opinion!). My conclusion? It's because this is a thriller. XD; Very much a page-turner, full of battles, life and death situations, and some mystery. While most of Yu Wo's series start with slow world-building and character introductions, this one dumps us right into the action without being confusing. It's definitely more of a react first, think later type of story. I suppose end of the world scenarios call for that, haha.

It makes for a nice change, and it's a much easier read than Gong Hua (a bit shorter and way less nerve-wracking). Despite this being an end of the world scenario, our main character has such a good chance this time around that things are actually fairly lighthearted. There is some identity angst, some cynicism and self doubt, along with fierce protectiveness over family. Jiang Shuyu, you win. You have all the qualities of being a favorite main character of mine. XD; I understand your protectiveness over your new family. They are super cute.

There are tons of fight scenes, way more than LSK (then again, Grisia doesn't really fight. He schemes, haha). Usually battle scenes don't do much for me, but it's fun seeing Shuyu experiment with his powers (and basically kick ass). There is an allure to powerful characters, isn't there... Shuyu's excuse being that he's been through this before. (time traveling and dimensional hopping = huge advantage for the Jiang family)

Regarding the powers revealed in this first volume, I will never stop being amused that big brother Jiang Shutian's power is healing and little sister Jiang Shujun's power is electricity. The almighty big brother ends up with healing powers while the "dainty" little sister has quite some offensive power (but is currently using it to charge appliances with great preciseness). Healers are awesome. Just look at Grisia! I fully anticipate Shujun turning into a great fighter without the need of her brothers protecting her.

I think everyone has predicted that Shuyu will end up as the Ice Emperor Guan Weijun saw in the parallel world. The story definitely seems to be headed that way! I wonder what this means about "Guan Weijun." What if Jiang Shuyu is actually stuck in her body while she is stuck in his...? Or are they really the same person? I hope they're the same person because I would find it too sad for Weijun if she must lose her place among this loving family.

While the story is currently fairly light-hearted (even with the angst sprinkled in), I have no doubt that Yu Wo will break my heart along the way. -___-; I hope Uncle and Auntie will be able to survive... They seem the weakest among the group.

Dominion's End seems to be slated for at least 7~8 volumes. Volumes are not really self-contained at all, unlike LSK where each volume has its own mini conclusion. V1 of Dominion's End kind of just ended right in the middle of the action. D: Anyway, V2 is scheduled to be released this December. I hope that indeed happens. :3;; But it sounds like we'll be getting No Hero V9 before that! September is Yu Wo's prediction.

Autograph session for Dominion's End v1 (Haha, there was a No Hero cosplayer there~~ of Ji Luo Chu. And wow, someone already cosplayed Jiang Shuyu! The readers are all so young~~~)
