Dear Parallels Creator

Jun 16, 2013 23:55

Signups for parallelsfic has started! \o\ Here's my letter detailing some background on the series I've requested and why I like these series~. Hopefully this will get more people to give these series a try too. :D

To my Parallels creator, my requests are detailed in my signup. This letter is merely extra info in case you are the type of person who likes to know more. Feel free to skip this if it's not helpful for you! The important thing is to have fun. ♥

The General Stuff

I requested only fic for each series. (Haha... ran out of slots for series I wanted to request art for, oops)

My general likes: I like plotty fic. Witty fic. A touch of humor here and there. Bittersweet turns of events that lead to a happy ending. Or just happy endings. Wistfulness. Friendship. Family. Loyalty. Bonds between characters. Secrets. Mystery. Plot twists. Character exploration.

My fics: If you feel you'll be more comfortable writing for me after figuring out what kind of writer I am, you can find my fics at ffnet, LJ, or AO3. I'm not yet a writer who's completely capable of writing what I like to read, so this might not be all that helpful though... You can also see a list of my favorites and recs at ffnet under favorites and AO3 under bookmarks.

Here are my requested fandoms! 5 manga series and 1 video game.

1. Kara no Teikoku | The Empty Empire

Summary: Around the year 2500 AD, the world was united by the emperor Idea, but after his death, the world soon turned chaotic. Helpless, the palace attempts to clone the emperor but deems the venture a failure. The clone escapes the palace before they are able to get rid of him. With no memories, he tries to discover who he is, not knowing that he is the emperor's clone.

Requested characters: Rose

What I like about this series: I don't know how many times I've reread the series. (I've purchased it in Chinese, English, and Japanese, haha.) Each time I read the series, I got something different out of it. ;) When it all comes down to it though, what I love about this series is Rose's journey. He starts off not knowing who he is and is basically always under Idea's shadow. How can he compare to that seemingly perfect emperor? Rose may be the emperor's clone, but he is definitely not Idea. I so very much wanted Rose to find a place where he could belong, to have others see him for him instead of comparing him to Idea.

Prompt: I would love any fic about Rose. Life after the end of the series. A missing scene during the series. His feelings about being the emperor's clone. Exploration of any insecurities he might have had. Interaction with other characters, especially Idem and Iriya. Rose wondering what it's like being a child since he was never one. Maybe something happens that requires everyone to work together. Or anything else you can think of!

Availability: The Empty Empire is published in English by CMX and is complete, 7 volumes long. For more information, here's an amazingly comprehensive Kara no Teikoku fansite that also includes scripts of every volume.

2. Haikyuu!

Summary: Volleyball manga. ;) Karasuno is known as the flightless crows. They used to be a strong school but have lost their edge. However, with the addition of Hinata Shouyou and Kageyama Tobio, two freshmen who used to be on opposing teams back in middle school, they just might be able to regain their former glory.

Requested characters: Kageyama Tobio

What I like about this series: The detailed artwork is stunning and the comparison with flight (like having wings) when Hinata jumps into the air is breathtaking. The characters are endearing and the matches suspenseful. There's something about the characters that makes me root for them wholeheartedly! I grin stupidly over the characters at times, like when Kageyama tried to give his teammates high-fives. I feel the series is still young, but there's already great character growth. Right now, we already have an entirely different Kageyama than the one we met at the beginning of the series.

Prompt: I'd love fic about Kageyama Tobio trying to figure out how to become a better setter. Possibly he'll try to study his senpai, Sugawara. Maybe he decides he needs to get along with the rest of the team better, especially the blockers, such as Tsukishima. Perhaps he tries something different with Hinata. It doesn't all have to be about volleyball either. A scene off the courts would be lovely too. I'd love seeing more interaction between Kageyama and the other first years. Do they ever do anything together? Is it awkward when they're not playing volleyball? The main point is that I'd like to see Kageyama interact with his current teammates! The series itself hasn't shown many scenes outside of volleyball, so it'd be cool to see them during their off time.

Availability: Currently, there are 63 chapters of this available. It is an ongoing series published in Weekly Shounen Jump.

3. Seiyuu ka-!

Summary: Kino Hime has always lived in her sister's shadow, but she has never let that hold her back. Inspired to become a seiyuu because of a chance meeting when she was young, she enrolls in a voice acting academy and is discovered for her "princely" voice even though her normal voice is pretty terrible. Under the condition that she crossdress as "Shiro," Hime makes her seiyuu debut.

Requested characters: Kino Hime, Kudou Senri

What I like about this series: Crossdressing. ;) I'm a big fan of genderbenders. The parts of the series I loved best was when Hime came across Senri as Shiro. I loved how comfortable they became with each other and how different Shiro's relationship was with Senri than the one she shared with Senri as herself. I also adored Senri's character and just how much he loved cats (he even thought of Hime as a cat at times!). Hime was quite an amazing character with how she never gave up despite her mother's lack of support. It was a joy seeing her make a name for herself, always striving to improve.

Prompt: I would love to see more interaction between Hime (as Shiro) and Senri, or a confrontation between Senri and Hime over her second identity. A missing scene during the series, or perhaps Hime somehow needs to bring Shiro out again. Maybe something happens during a shared job. Or, what happens after the ending? Where does Hime go from now on? Does she try to befriend Senri as herself? Do people remember, or do they forget, about Shiro? Does anyone else ever find out Shiro's identity? Does Hime ever find out about Senri's past? Does Senri reconcile with his mother? Does Hime with hers?

Availability: This manga is complete at 12 volumes.

4. SKET Dance

Summary: Three high school students form a club called the SKET Dan that is dedicated to helping the staff and students. They solve a variety of problems and influence a great number of people.

Requested characters: Fujisaki Yusuke

What I like about this series: Even though SKET Dance is normally very humorous, there are times when the series makes me cry with how touching it is. My heart seriously bursts in fondness for these characters and their bonds with each other. Recent manga chapters have made me even fonder of Bossun and just how much he has dedicated himself to helping other people.

Prompt: I'd love more about Bossun helping other people, bonding with Tsubaki, going out with his family, figuring out any romantic feelings he might have, keeping in touch with Himeko and Switch... Since the series seems like it will end soon, I'd love something that explores what happens after they graduate from high school. Or something that explores what they do outside of school. Or anything really. I just don't want to part with SKET Dance just yet!

Availability: The anime is 77 episodes long (and can be found on Crunchyroll). The manga is still ongoing at 285 chapters but is nearing its end.

5. Usotsuki Lily

Summary: Usotsuki Lily is a lighthearted shoujo manga series by Komura Ayumi that doesn't take itself seriously at all. The premise is that Saotome Hinata, our female protagonist, is asked out by a hot guy, Shinohara En. Being the shallow person that she is (she was immediately charmed by his gorgeous looks), she immediately agrees to go out with him and wonders why she's never seen him around at school before, only to find out later that En is a perpetual crossdresser because he hates guys so much that he can't even stand his own reflection, so he solves this dilemma by crossdressing. And makes a very pretty girl.

Requested characters: Saotome Taiyou

What I like about this series: I like the series for its humor. The characters constantly break the fourth wall, reminding us to reread chapter so-and-so to refresh our memories about some one-off character that has suddenly become more important. Characters tell us they haven't been named. Characters lament about how the mangaka treats them. Important characters sometimes get introduced in offhand comments. The mangaka's author notes are also very humorous! Even though there isn't much of an overarching plot, there are several very distinct characters even among the side characters, and I love how cool or pretty the characters look when they crossdress (several people crossdress at different points of the series). My favorite character is Hinata's younger brother, Taiyou.

Prompt: Taiyou is somehow one of the few people in the series who is single, and I perhaps like him all the more because of it. (It's like how I tend to like the underdogs in a love triangle... The more someone struggles, the more I like them). I quite adore how close he is with his sister. I'd love to see family fic about the Saotome family, perhaps an episode about Taiyou and Hinata when they were growing up, or a shared experience about caving in to their dad because of how helpless their dad is. Maybe something about either Hinata or Taiyou being protective over each other. Or perhaps an exploration of Taiyou and Ten. Does Taiyou ever give in to Ten's advances? What does he feel about Ten? Does Taiyou ever find love elsewhere? Why does Ten like Taiyou so much? Extra points for crossdressing Hinata, haha. Future fic would be cool too, or anything really that you can come up with for Taiyou.

Availability: This manga is still ongoing at 11 volumes.

6. Fire Emblem: Awakening

Summary: The latest in the Fire Emblem series, Awakening brings time travel and shipping into the equation. In other words, an awesome mix. (What, this isn't a summary? Er...) FE:A takes place in a medieval world with princes and knights and dragons and magic. Chrom is the prince of Ylisse. One day, he discovers an amnesiac person in the fields (the player character). Right afterwards, he and his friends are drawn into a battle that involves Risen, undead monsters controlled by an unknown force. They are saved by a masked swordsman who claims to be the Hero King of legends. Soon, a war sweeps across the continent.

Requested characters: Libra

What I like about this series: I love the Fire Emblem series, especially the support conversations. Awakening has amazing supports and goes beyond the normal A, B, C conversations, even giving us more through DLC and other conversations. I've always loved how FE has been able to flesh out its huge cast and give the characters personality, making me care about the characters a ton.

Prompt: Libra is among my favorites in Awakening because he is very polite, reserved, and devoted. He is soft spoken and seems to be an upstanding man, but his conversations hint that he had a dark past. But... what made me instantly like him wasn't any of that. It was his introduction and how Chrom mistook him for a girl, haha. It's not something that only Chrom does either. Virion does it too and goodness did it get awkward. I giggled. In any case, I love Libra a ton and would love to see fic about him, especially fic that explores his existing support conversations more. Perhaps a continuation of his support conversations with Virion (what would it be like if they could support up to S?). Same for Libra and Gaius. Gaius really threw Libra off! Or what about Chrom and Virion commiserating over mistaking Libra's gender? Or perhaps Libra interacting with someone that he didn't have any supports with, such as Ricken or Henry. I would also love future fic about Libra and his orphanage, whether or not he takes care of it with someone. Or an exploration of Libra's past or self-hatred.

Availability: FE:A is a 3DS game. It is available for purchase in the e-shop and physically.

Thank you, and I hope you have a great time writing! Do feel free to run with something you're comfortable with. It's important to me that you have fun and are able to exercise your creativity. My prompts are here in case you need something to start you off, but if you're inspired by something else, do feel free to write that instead! As long as you're writing about the characters I've requested, you're good. :)
