First line meme
This is what I do when I get stuck on writing.
First line meme snagged from seta_suzume! The idea is to list out the last 21 first lines I've written in fic, but I don't have that many fics. XD; So, have 12 first lines from me, the ones I've written this year. Most are from the beginning of new chapters instead of the very beginning of the fic. There are some unpublished lines as well, ones for fics that I should be posting soon. *keeps fingers crossed*
1. Hand-in-hand, two people stand before Kawaguchi Taro's grave. (Bakuman, unpublished fic)
2. It was with a heavy heart that Adair returned to his home in the countryside, having been given time off. (LSK, untitled fic)
3. I didn't do it on purpose. (LSK, Entries 5)
4. Lesus and Adair are slave drivers. (LSK, Bittersweet 30)
5. When Sun sensed Storm's presence, he hastened his steps to catch up but not so much that he would appear hurried, as that would not be graceful. (LSK, Closed Doors 2)
6. While many of his companions had found or were with at least one familiar being from their world, Sunshine had yet to come upon anyone he knew. (1/2P x LSK, Invincible 9)
7. In another story, Neo and Aldrizzt would have made it to town in time to see an "adventurer squad" powerful enough to slay dragons pass through town. (1/2P x LSK, Invincible 8)
8. Grisia proved to be a poor sparring partner. (LSK, Bittersweet 29)
9. Gripping my sword, I swung at the practice dummy in front of me. (LSK, Vice-captain 3)
10. My week was turning out strange. (LSK, Vice-captain 2)
11. "So, what did you need me for?" I asked with a frown. (LSK, Vice-captain 1)
12. A group of men sat around a table, drinking wine. (LSK, Vice-captain prologue)
HAHAHAHAHA, oh how simplistic my writing is.
Also, Invincible seems to have longer beginning sentences because of the more omniscient POV. I tend to take a broader view in the beginning of Invincible chapters, establishing which character we're following and where we are, before the chapter turns more limited.
It seems that whenever I try to break away from 1st person or 3rd person limited, I end up describing the setting and the characters, like how many of them are present. OTL *looks at #1 and #12*
I seem to use shorter sentences with 1st person. I guess... since that's how I imagine them to speak. XD;
I've been poking at the Bakuman fic more than I have at the LSK WIPs, so hopefully I will be able to finish that soon and go back to working on my WIPs. XD; But dang, only one non LSK fic on this list. Then again, most of these are chapters of longfics. Why did I start all these fics when I'm so bad at finishing... /o\ Okay, okay, mission, finish fics!
