Dear Yuletide Writer

(this is my letter for yuletide, a fic exchange for obscure fandoms)

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for writing for me! The following is meant to help you if you're the type who likes extra information, such as knowing more about my general likes regarding fic and what I like about the fandoms and characters I'm requesting. In case you feel adventurous, I've provided short blurbs about each of the series as well.

This letter is meant to be helpful. Optional details are optional, so please don't feel pressured by the letter! Take whatever is helpful from the letter and feel free to ignore the rest. I've requested my favorite character from each fandom, so as long as the fic is about that character, I'll be happy!

My general likes:
♥ plotty fic
♥ stories with a touch of humor here and there
♥ bittersweet turns of events that come with happy endings that are earned
♥ happy endings
♥ exploration on how a character gets from one point to the next
♥ tone that follows the original source
♥ gen (not focused on romance; background pairings are fine, though I would really love to see family/friendship/rivalry explored instead)
♥ underdogs
♥ exploration of bonds shared between characters

If you do wish to explore a romantic relationship, I like het and slash!

I adore crossovers as long as they're plausible and developed. I like AUs as well, but mostly the type that changes things a bit with what-if scenarios but still keeps the general premise of the series mostly in tack.

My fics:
If you feel you'll be more comfortable writing for me after figuring out what kind of writer I am, you can find my fics at ffnet, at LJ, or at AO3. You can also find my bookmarks and favorited fics over at my ffnet and AO3 accounts.

SKET Dance

SKET Dance is a humorous gag manga by Shinohara Kenta. The anime adaption recently ended at 77 episodes. Despite being a gag series, it also has its serious moments, and several of them made me cry... The series is about three high school students who have formed a club called the SKET Dan that is dedicated to helping the staff and students. They solve a variety of problems and influence a great number of people. What I like about the series is its mix of humor and seriousness, as well as the bonds between the characters. The Happy Birthday arc is what firmly cemented my enjoyment of the series.

[spoilerish reason for why]
I enjoy brothers in fiction a ton. Long lost siblings = even better. I find Bossun and Tsubaki's relationship to be super fascinating! I cannot get enough of them being in the same scene. They seem to see each other as rivals and didn't like each other at all, but they can't seem to stop caring about what the other does. Then they find out that they're actually brothers, but it doesn't exactly change who they are or what they do, but grudgingly, they do spend time together and squabble like siblings even if they won't admit it. I also love it when they imitate each other to solve matters.

character requested: Tsubaki Sasuke
(he's the one on the right in the pic above)
While I like a lot of the characters in SKET Dance, Tsubaki is my favorite out of everyone. He values following the rules and can be very inflexible at times, but he cares greatly about helping others. He can also be very silly when everyday references completely go over his head. (He's the type who read encyclopedias and atlases when he was young while other people were reading comics, who doesn't know anything about video games but can get super addicted to them if you get him to try). He's not very good at reading the mood or atmosphere, and he has a thing for making lame t-shirts, even though he can't tell his design sense is bad. Also, he makes a great girl, master, cat, and the cutest kid.

My request:I'd love to see anything to do with Tsubaki! Exploration of his years before high school, before he learned to stand up for himself, would be lovely. If not that, I would adore him losing his contacts and donning glasses for a short duration. Or what about the time when he found out his blood type? Or maybe he goes to visit Bossun again. Maybe Tsubaki gets addicted to something new (Bossun can be such a terrible influence!). Perhaps Tsubaki and Kiri still need to work things out, or Tsubaki learns to ask for help from others. Maybe it's Tsubaki's turn to convince Kiri to let him take care of Kiri too. Or perhaps Chuuma-sensei strikes again, and Tsubaki is de-aged or gets stuck as a cat or is turned into an actual girl or gets body-swapped or who knows what befalls him this time! Or maybe you'd like to explore Tsubaki as the student council president, or how he ended up as the vice-president in the previous year. Or perhaps you'd like to write future fic. What does Tsubaki end up doing in the future after high school?

I especially adore Tsubaki's interactions with Bossun and Kiri, though his interactions with many others are interesting too. (Agata, for one! Himeko as well~.) So feel free to take your pick of who to feature, if you'd even like to feature anyone else. As long as Tsubaki's character is explored, I'll be happy!
The entire anime series is available on Crunchyroll. The manga is being scanlated by Trinity BAKuma.

Havemercy Series - Jaida Jones & Danielle Bennett

The Havemercy series is a series of four books by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett. Steampunk fantasy. Each book features alternating, 1st person narration between four main characters. The characters have awesome and very distinct voices. Most people usually introduce this series as the one with metal dragons and gay magicians. I enjoy the world building down to the swear words they use!

[more spoilerish flailing]
I was on the edge of my seat with the first book, and my mind was blown when my suspicion that Rook was Thom's long lost brother turned out to be true. I absolutely adore brothers in fiction, especially estranged ones (I really have a thing for long lost siblings), and the tension between these two was intense. They were complete strangers at the start and didn't even like each other (they got on each other's nerves so much), but sometimes, despite how different they were, they were somehow similar as well and just couldn't stop thinking about each other. I enjoyed how we got to revisit Rook and Thom in book 3. They'd truly been separated for a long, long time, pretty much their entire lives. While they now know they're brothers, their memories of being brothers has faded so much that they can't even trust what they remember anymore, and even with those memories, they've changed since. How exactly do they fit into each other's lives now, and where will they go from here?

character requested: Thom
Thom is my absolute favorite in the series. I love his voice and his struggles to find his place. He's a scholar through and through and can be very logical, but he can also be susceptible to sentimentality. I really like his thoughts, so I would love more of that. I also like seeing other characters' thoughts about him, so that would work for me too. I find it pretty fascinating how he comes off quite differently depending on the narrator!

My request:I adore Thom and would love any fic that focuses on him. Fic from his POV would be lovely, and fic that explores other characters' thoughts about him equally so. Rook and Thom fascinate me, as does Thom's friendship with Balfour. If you could get Thom in the same scene as any other characters (such as Thom meeting Caius? Or Alcibiades? That would be amazing too), I certainly wouldn't mind!

Basically, any fic that focuses on Thom would be much adored. Fic set in Thom's past, or beyond the fourth book, would all be great. Maybe Thom and Rook finally reach Eklesias? Or they return to Thremedon for some reason. Missing scenes from the books would be cool too.

I wouldn't mind any AUs that feature Thom either, as long as the dynamics with the other characters (such as Rook) are kept. Present day superhero AU? Firefighter AU? For any fans of the Avengers, I would so love Thom and Rook meeting Loki and Thor...
Just throwing ideas out there. If none of these ideas bite, do feel free to run with something else!

Fate/Zero

Fate/Zero is a Japanese light novel by Gen Urobuchi and is the prequel to Fate/stay night. I have only seen the anime version of Fate/Zero and haven't seen any of Fate/stay night (but I don't mind spoilers for this fandom). Fate/Zero details the events of the 4th Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. In the war, seven mages summon seven heroic spirits to compete in order to win the Holy Grail.

requested characters: Waver Velvet, Rider (Fate/Zero)
Waver was the character who got me hooked on the series. He joins the war for acknowledgment and is really completely in over his head, but he has grand ideas, a revolutionary view of magic. I love the scholar in him and the naivety he starts with, and I really wish I could've seen him as a master mage. I find him adorable, especially in his interactions with Rider, his servant. They are nothing like the other master-servant pairs, being more like friends than anything else, and Waver just ends up going along with Rider's pace. Episode 23 had me crying. Seriously, this sums up Waver and Rider's relationship so well, as does this with their role reversal. Here, have some badass Waver as well, who shows such conviction here in this scene and used his spells in such a way that had my heart bursting in fondness. Sometimes, I just wish they could spend their days playing video games with each other. ;__; But no, this is the reality.

My request:Waver and Rider's relationship made the series for me. I love that they're friends and that sometimes it's hard to even tell who the master is in this master-servant relationship. I would love more of their daily antics. Maybe they have some time off, or maybe they're deep in the middle of planning their next step. Maybe Rider needs to get accustomed to the present day world, or he explains more about his world to Waver. Perhaps Waver and Rider spend some time with the old couple that Waver stays with. Outsider POV would be fascinating in that case (what do the old couple make of Waver and Rider?)

Waver and Rider coming across the other servants and masters would make for a great read too. Post series fic would be adored as well, such as Waver dealing with the aftermath. What path does Waver's life take after the war and everything he's experienced?

An AU where the ending's different would be quite enjoyable as well, with a different winner for the Holy Grail War. Or what if Waver ends up in the past during Rider's time?
Basically, explore Waver and Rider, and I'll be happy! These are just some ideas. I like Rider in connection to Waver, so if you're wondering if you should focus on either of the two more, Waver would be the one I'd love the focus on. The entire anime series can be found on Crunchyroll. The light novel can be found on Baka Tsuki.

Basara (Anime & Manga)

Basara is an epic shoujo manga series by Tamura Yumi that takes place in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic Japan. When Tatara, the child of destiny prophesied to be the one who would overthrow the tyrannical rule of the Empire, is killed, his sister Sarasa takes up his identity to keep everyone's hopes alive.

requested character: Asagi
My favorite character from Basara is Asagi. He is manipulative, sneaky, self-centered, and completely a bastard, so why do I even like him? Well, Asagi is exactly the character type that I love. You never know what side he's playing for, and that just makes me wish for the heel face turn even more. The cliff scene where Asagi stood high up and stared down, wondering why he was even doing this and if he was actually going to do it was one of my favorite scenes from the series. It spoke so much of Asagi's inner conflict. I also have a thing for the underdog, and Asagi truly had no chance with Sarasa, not with Shuri in the picture. But Sarasa as Tatara was actually close to Asagi...

My request:I would just love to learn more about Asagi in any form. Backstory? More in depth exploration of Asagi joining Tatara? Asagi baiting Shuri? What does Asagi think of himself and others? What is Asagi's life like after everything happens?

Any epic ideas you have featuring Asagi will be greatly adored.
This series is complete at 27 volumes.

Thank you for writing for me! Please keep in mind to have fun and don't stress out too much. :) My requests are mostly just me throwing out ideas regarding the characters. If you have other head canon that works better for you, please feel free to run with that!
