PairPuri and then grammar question
Flipping through my PairPuri volume 2 and was surprised when I came upon Okiayu Ryoutarou's signature on his picture. (There's an interview between him and Hosoya included since he voices Tezuka and Hosoya voices Shiraishi). I forgot I asked him to sign it. XD;; Goodness, how bad can my memory be.. OTL.
What did I have Kiuchi Hidenobu sign... Oh right, PairPuri 3. XD; Since he voices Oshitari. His signature said "To Lucathia-san." The "a" in Lucathia almost ran into Fukuyama Jun's face. XDDD (Fukuyama Jun voices Kenya).
...anyway, that aside, I've recently been puzzled by quotation marks and their placement when other punctuation marks are involved. I've always put periods and commas after quotation parts like so:
He thought she wanted "fish", "books", and "nothing else".
But is it supposed to be:
He thought she wanted "fish," "books," and "nothing else."
Hm, looking this up, this may be an American English thing...huh. Seems like the punctuation does go inside the quotation marks regardless of logic. *this does not make sense*
I usually only put punctuation marks inside quotation marks when it's someone saying something, like:
"I want to buy fish," said the girl.
"Go home."
But when citing something, the punctuation comes after, like:
She convinced him that "she would be very helpful with the investigation" (p. 12).
Then there are cases where there are quotes within quotes which get even more confusing. I read something along the lines of how the stronger punctuation mark gets used...?
"He said, 'Go home!'" the girl whispered.
"Did he say, 'Welcome back?'" she asked.
...is that how those should be done?
And then there are cases like:
Who said, "Go home already!"
Who said, "That's an awesome book"?
...I feel I need to reread my Elements of Style book. Or bookmark some sites that have the rules for quotation marks so that I can refer to them when writing and editing. =/
