Female Warrior, Eclipse Hunter, Black Flower... and Yuletide!

Miscellaneous talk on Yu Wo's works. XD; I've almost gone through all her works... well, I still have three series left before I run out of things to read, so I guess I can't say "almost". No Hero, Kill No More, and GOD. Oh, and the crossover between 1/2 Prince and Kill No More. XD;

Female Warrior / 女武
More 女武! Yu Wo posted the 6th part, in which Sylvester stumbles upon a half elf. (A half elf!! He's yet to have been awake during his screentime... darn. I want to find out what he's like already!) Hee, I wonder if Sylvester is going to end up (literally) stumbling over each of the remaining of the Twelve Holy Knights? He's already picked up two strays this way!

Eclipse Hunter / 玄日狩
I loaded my Yuletide canon as well as all five volumes of Eclipse Hunter on my tablet. After finally finishing re-consuming the series I matched for Yuletide and planning out the fic(s), instead of actually writing, I thought, "hm, maybe I'll take a peek of Eclipse Hunter... I've been meaning to read it since last year..." *facepalm* Two days later, I've finished reading all five volumes. I didn't have much clue about what the series was about, but I came out loving it a lot! It's third person, and the cast is a little smaller than the ones from 1/2 Prince and Legend of Sun Knight, but the main character endeared himself to me a lot with his naivety and his protectiveness.

I suppose this would be sci-fi instead of fantasy. LSK is more fantasy? GongHua/Black Flower is definitely fantasy. 1/2 Prince is... half/half? Hm, it wouldn't be too hard to cross 1/2 Prince and Eclipse Hunter... *watches the plunnies multiply* I know I saw someone start one crossover of these two series already. They are pretty easy to cross. XD

*posts a picture from the sequel, No Hero* I have very little clue what the sequel is about, but I gotta stop myself from reading it right this moment. The guy in this pic was Eclipse Hunter's main character, a half-human, half-cyborg who was experimented on by his father and ordered to protect his older brother who's spent years looking for his younger brother (and pretty much conquered the world as he did it). These two brothers go through ridiculous lengths to protect each other. The older brother just wants his younger brother to be happy and live a normal life as a teenage boy (but his brother's never interacted with the outside world after age 7, and he's ridiculously strong and half-cyborg so...), while the younger brother wishes to protect his older brother from all harm (but his brother is an important political figure, so...). Most of the story follows the younger brother, including exploits at a fighting school where he tries to hide his identity as DarkSun. (I was definitely already sold by this point because secret identities plus fiercely loyal brothers plus a kickass yet naive main character!!) I also liked the side characters a lot. Ezart, with his fiery temper and his orange-hair, reminds me of Tekatme (heee) and the secretary guy of the older brother is quite Adair-like. I think I might think of all capable subordinates as Adair-like. XD; One of the characters is a mind reader. Fun! There's even actual BL going on in this story, unlike the fake BL in 1/2 Prince, haha. I thought Yu Wo only ever hinted! There's also a lot of fighting going on in this series. If this were a manga series, I'd definitely label it as a shounen battle manga! Would be so awesome if this ever got adapted to a manhua series... though I wonder if No Hero would have a better chance at that.

I wonder how much the main character changes by the time he appears in No Hero... I hope not too much... Black Flower's protagonist's personality does a 180 by the second half of the first novel. That made me so sad. ;___; Seeing the pic of "DarkSun" from No Hero, I would never have imagined that he's actually very naive...at least in EH...

Black Flower / 公華
I realize I haven't talked about this (I think...), but I bought volumes 1-3 at the same time as I bought v8 of Legend of Sun Knight! \o/ I read 1-2 already, so I delved right into v3. When I started reading EH, I immediately made comparisons between EH's main character (the younger brother) and GongHua, Black Flower's main character. GongHua, as a "flower", isn't human and doesn't know anything about human feelings or human behavior, so he starts off almost like a blank slate, asks a lot of questions to learn about the world, etc. He's also fiercely protective of certain people, a trait that DarkSun shares. While the protagonists are similar, EH has comedic elements while Black Flower's meant to be tragic. I felt things took a turn for less tragic in v3, but now I feel even more unsettled for GongHua because there are totally signs for a tragic ending. If this were any of Yu Wo's other series, I'd feel safe knowing that the protagonist would probably come out unharmed and that there'd be a happy ending... but with Black Flower... who knows? Anyway, GongHua and the protagonist of Eclipse Hunter are both somewhat like... hm, Senri from +Anima? Though they're a lot more talkative. Perhaps like... Sunshine? A mix of Senri and Sunshine? I think I've just found another of my favorite character types. XD;

I've been using "he" with Gonghua... but ze is probably more accurate? Though I think GongHua thinks he should identify as male, because he's a "male flower" though flowers don't distinguish male/female the same way as humans, so there's always some confusion when people consider him a "man" because he's not a man, he's "male", but there are also female flowers, so he's only genderless in...human terms? "He" is used with GongHua in the novel in his POVs even when people mistake him for a girl. There seems to be a distinction between female flowers and male flowers, with female flowers appearing taller and more well built while male flowers are daintier but are the ones with fighting power. Wonder if we'll get more into that in the next volume... GongHua's separated from the rest of the Leaf tribe from the start, so we know very little about them...

I only really care about GongHua in this... I'm not too attached to the other characters except for how they interact with GongHua. I'm not too fond of grown up Kasi at the moment, but he was so cute when he was younger... before he, like GongHua, did a complete 180 with his personality because of hatred. I did like it when his subordinates revealed more about him, so maybe he'll endear himself to me yet. (I totally laughed during this part even though this series isn't meant to be funny! I laughed so hard my stomach started hurting... XD;; )

I wonder when volume 4's coming out. :3

Anywayyy, Yuletide. XD; I already have two gifts waiting to me since... the beginning of this week, I believe. SO ON TOP OF THINGS, MY WRITER(S). And now I've just checked and saw that the number has increased by one. :O *flails is it Yuletide yet, can I open my presents, oh wait, I haven't finished writing my fic yet, don't come just yet, Yuletide!* With no restraint at all, I totally checked the fandom page as my gifts appeared, so I think I even know which order the fandoms will be in. XD;

I feel very guilty about my progress. I want to write so many different things but my progress is terrible! Back to plotting, or I guess I should stop plotting and write more instead... except re-visiting my recipient's letter made me consume another new canon, and trying to understand that led me to another canon that is somewhat related (only peripherally)... my ways of procrastination never cease to amaze me. OTL I'm starting to feel this fic is too huge for me, the scope of it is scaring me... maybe I should manage some shorter, stand-alone snippet sort of fic to make sure I don't accidentally end up defaulting if it turns out I don't manage to finish this before the deadline... and here I wanted to write treats. I'm leaving myself no time for treats like this! *flails* I don't exactly have all that much time left... where has December gone? T___T; Stop flailing. Write more!
