Stuff I'm watching this season~. (Hope I don't fall behind, haha...) Planning to watch Kimi to Boku, Bakuman season 2, Chihayafuru, Working!! season 2, and Hunter x Hunter. Except for Hunter x Hunter, all the other series can be said to be slice-of-life series. That says a lot about what I like, huh?
Kimi to Boku
I've been following the manga and got into it in 2008. It was pretty much unknown back then, and I couldn't even find the manga in my bookstore! Back then, KtB was being serialized in GanGan Powered, a bimonthly magazine, and wasn't very well known. It got a bit more recognition after the serialization moved to GFantasy, but it still got very few color pages and furoku. When the anime got announced, GFantasy started advertising the series a lot, and now KtB is on consecutive covers of the magazine, getting furoku almost every month, and lots of people are talking about the series. Ahh, what anime does for the popularity of manga... well, I'm happy, since this means I'll get more merchandise of KtB when merchandise was pretty much non-existent before this!
kimitoboku_fan -> KtB community if anyone's interested~. Haha, there was 0 members for the longest time, but now it's grown to a reasonable size.
As for the actual first episode, not bad! I was a little afraid I'd be disappointed, but it was actually interesting how the anime incorporated the kindergarten part with what was happening in the present now, since they were two separate chapters in the manga, not connected at all. Will be interesting to see how the anime adapts material from the manga. Yuuki looking for a club was the plot of only 1 chapter in the manga, the introductory chapter, and I know this chapter so well that there wasn't anything new, haha, so I'm glad the kindergarten part was included, otherwise this episode would have felt like it was dragging. XD; (listened to the drama CD version of this chapter so many times when I translated it. drama cd version is only 12 minutes long). I got into the series because of the drama CDs, so I miss the drama CD cast, but I'm sure I'll get used to the anime cast. I'm currently not able to tell Yuuki and Yuuta apart though, while I was distinctly able to tell Yuuki and Yuuta apart in the drama CD (since I'm more familiar with Minagawa Junko and Kaida Yuki). But with how much people are talking about how they feel KtB gives off BL vibes... well, it was a good move having an all male cast seiyuu. Drama CD version had pretty much all female seiyuu except for Kaname.
The first episode got the atmosphere of KtB down pretty well, so I have high hopes for the rest of the anime! It should be a fairly relaxing series that will bring a few smiles to people's faces. I always laugh a lot when I read the manga. :) While I would love to see a lot of the chapters animated, I wouldn't mind seeing new, original anime-only material too, since this is quite an episodic type of series. The first three episodes look to be introducing us to the main characters, but I wonder what direction the series will take after that~
Haha, oh, and the random cats... huh. XD; There is one chapter in the manga where Chizuru (the blond boy) finds a cat and all that, but that was it. Strange to see cats everywhere in the anime!
Bakuman season 2
Yay, Bakuman season 2! I've been waiting for this! A lot of people think the Bakuman anime is slow, but I quite love the pacing, and I especially love how Miho and Kaya have a lot more screentime in the anime. They feel more fleshed out to me in the anime! First episode started with an opening for Trap. Oh how I wish Trap was an actual series. XD; (But pft, Mashiro and Takagi only just started their serialization of Trap. An anime opening is still just a wistful dream for them! The opening was pretty cool though).
Hiramaru!!! :D I can't wait until Aoki gets more screentime too! The new years party was pretty awesome in the anime! \o/
Miura... ahhh Miura. I'm still a little surprised by his voice. I never imagined him sounding so... rough.
I hope we'll be seeing fleshed out versions of ideas for manga and such. :D
Chihayafuru
Series about competitive karuta. \o/ I read a little of this manga (because I love sports series~) and enjoyed what I read, though I didn't manage to read very far. The animation so far (from the first episode) has been lovely, and the characters are drawn so beautifully. :) I sense a bit of wistfulness (from growing up?) and look forward to what else is in store for the series. It'll be exciting not knowing what's coming next (...since I already know the general gist of things for KtB and Bakuman, having read the manga versions for both...).
Them as kids! :D I remember the newspaper delivery scene from the manga. Loved that scene. Seeing it in the anime made it even better. :) And I loved hearing Arata's accent.
Haha, series like these always need some cool action shots! (like slamming down go stones intensely)
Now I'm just waiting for Chihaya to show off her prowess. ;)
Working season 2
The first two episodes were very charming~, and it was great to see the characters again, especially now that they all know each other, and now that I know them too. XD; I'm not a big fan of Inami, but I like her a lot more so far because she has tried to change a little. Souma and Satou has both made me laugh so far (Souma for joking around on his phone when Aoi and Poplar tried to stalk him, and he ended up making them think he was mentally ill when he was in fact trying to scare them). Satou was just... Satou.
Like this. Hahaha. XD;;
Poplar tried to compliment him. Awww, Poplar.
Takanashi seems to have brought his love for small things to a new level...crying over a bug... Inami has her work cut out for her!
Hunter x Hunter
Killua hasn't shown up yet, but have a Killua screenshot! Eeee, can't wait to see him!
I thought the original anime was done well, and I liked the OVAs a lot too, so this remake feels very unnecessary... still, I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed revisiting the series in this form. I hope the manga will be continuing strong too without more hiatuses! The first two episodes of this remake were very fast paced (like Gon getting on the ship so quickly?) but I don't feel anything too important has been left out, and I am eager for the anime to get into the core of the hunter exams.
Watching these episodes made me a little nostalgic. First, from hearing narration, since only some anime utilize narration, YYH being one of those! And DBZ. The challenges Gon has already faced just within the first two episodes remind me how creative Togashi can be... now I'm all eager for the next few episodes. XD;
Kurapika in a hammock. ;D (Really, reading on a boat should already make you feel seasick. He's even reading on a swinging hammock!)
Oh Leorio, you just want us to think you're a bastard.
Heee, I love their expressions!
I thought I'd miss the old seiyuu cast a ton, but the new seiyuu for Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika are quite fitting too. We'll see how much I like Killua's voice. :3
