Yuletide reveals
yuletide authors have been revealed! I haven't been able to make my way back to reading all the fandoms I planned on reading..I only got up to J or so but left comments for almost every single story I read. The days between Christmas and New Years sure pass by in a flash! I hope I'll get around to the rest of the stories soon even though authors have already been revealed.
I wrote two stories this year, which is exactly the same number as last year and the previous year. :3 I'm not a very prolific writer, so I was pleased I was even able to write two oneshots of reasonable length, both in fandoms I've never written before.
♥ Give Me Your Hand (Yankee-kun to Megane-Chan, Adachi/Shinagawa, for Alianora)
This was my main assignment~. I love the series a lot because it's crazily fun and humorous, but I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for the series. XD; I wasn't very familiar with all the details since I only read through the series once very quickly all in Japanese up to volume 11. I fretted and even considered writing Alianora's other prompt for Mei-chan no Shitsuji instead even though I've only watched 1 episode of the drama (I totally considered marathoning the show with only one day left until assignments were due). I ended up rereading Yankee-kun to Megane-chan and taking a whole slew of notes on each chapter. I only got up to the recent scanlations (chapter 63) before I gave up reviewing since I really needed to get writing. XD That's pretty much the reason why the fic is set in second year! The fic itself just wouldn't get to the point quickly enough, hence why it got longer and longer (and less detailed near the end with the time crunch). I did enjoy writing Shinagawa even though I'm entirely unused to writing characters with language like his. I'm glad people seemed to think everyone was IC. Thank you for the fun prompt, Alianora!
This fic was originally going to be titled "Don't Take Off Your Glasses" because I originally wanted to write Shinagawa in utter confusion over Adachi and the mysterious girl he met during entrance exams. He realizes that he likes Adachi that way, but he also likes the other girl and he doesn't know they're the same person. So he frets and tries to fall out of love with Adachi and doesn't want her to take off her glasses because she'd be too cute that way and remind him too much of the other girl. This fic was obviously not what came out in the end. XD What I did write was inspired by the manga Kimi to Boku when the guys there had a thumb war. I could totally see Adachi and the rest doing something similar. I wrote about that...and entirely strayed from the original plans for the fic. I renamed the fic "Give Me Your Hand," since that ended up being the theme running through the fic.
I feel fairly confident that I can write another fic in this fandom if I wanted to. I was eying the other prompts for the series and planned to write treats for those (ie: Chiba and Kumagaya taking over the game world), but that didn't end up happening! I hope I can write some more for the series as New Years Resolution fics. This is a fun series to write.
♥ Snowmen with Scarves (Kimi to Boku for jan/ambientlight)
I snatched up this pinch hit right away. ^___^ I wasn't planning on writing KtB since I was more interested in reading about the series than writing it, but there's no way I can say no to this. The writing for this fic came very easily since I wasn't aiming for the fic to be anything complicated. There is nothing much to this fic other than it being another slice of the five main boys' lives. It's set during a random winter day (and not during Christmas or New Years, since I know the original series already has chapters about them). Like the above fic, this one is pretty dialogue heavy, which is strange for me since I've always shied away from writing dialogue. I translate KtB for Bliss Scanlations though, and that has made me extremely familiar with the speech of everyone in this series. I'm thinking that's why the dialogue came so easily. I battle with their speech everyday already, paying much more attention than I usually would when reading manga for fun. Thank you, ambientlight, for requesting KtB for Yuletide! :) If I ever write another fic for KtB, I will so write about the twins since they're my favorite too.
In addition to the lovely Saiunkoku fic about Tan-tan that I got from Maat, I also received a treat about Sunshine from 1/2 Prince from darkicedragon. Thanks~! :D
