...I wrote this while playing Tierkreis some weeks ago. Why the heck did I write this long rambling thing? Since the English version came out and more people are playing it, I thought that maybe some will find this interesting? Maybe? I still need to finish the game. And see if I can connect with the American version with my Japanese version. I will be sad if I can't. D:
This covers roughly 1/2 of the game, I think. More shocking events happen later that I wish I had written about.
THE STORY SO FAR (I linked to things on the website, but they moved the pages around. The links no longer work, so just ignore them. It's too much work to remove them now.)
Okay, so you start off with the Hero,
Marica (the girl he grew up with),
Liu (the other mysterious boy who turned up at the village),
Jale (the boy voiced by Okiayu, haha), and
Dirk (the adult who's supposed to protect them). They go off to find out why the animals are acting up. Suddenly, a forest appears out of nowhere, but no one remembers that it wasn't there before except for the Hero, who forgets after a while. After they go deeper, they find a mysterious book. When they touch it, they get visions of people fighting where they are standing. When monsters attack them, the Hero asks Dirk to stand back. The Hero, Jale, and Marica defeat the monsters easily with their new attacks. Dirk is amazed. The Hero asks Dirk and Liu to try touching the book too, but nothing happens to them, though Liu acts weirdly. The Hero and the other two also remember that there didn't used to be a forest.
They return back to Citro Village and discovered that
another Marica had terrorized the village. Dirk decides to stay in the village. The others head to the forest to the north to track her down. They meet people from the Ranbaru tribe (who are traveling merchants). One of them,
Hoppa joins the party to go into the forest. When they find the other Marica, they discover that she's from another world. She came to this world to defeat the Renegade (monsters from other worlds) that had come out of the door to the other worlds. After defeating the renegade together, the Hero follows Marica to the door. He wants to go see her world. But when he enters the door, he gets spit out. Hoppa explains that sometimes certain people can't cross worlds.
Hero asks Hoppa and the other Marica to try touching the mysterious book. It reacts for Hoppa, who suddenly realizes that the forest wasn't there before. It doesn't react for the other Marica, and she explains that it's probably because she has her own book back home. She returns home after that. Hero tells Hoppa that he wants to learn more about the book, so Hoppa tells him about the library to the north. When they head back, the other Ranbaru
Moana asks where they're heading. When she touches the book, she reacts to it too. She then sets up headquarters at the castle ruins. Yay, headquarters already! She's the one who can give you job offers.
Liu decides to head back to Citro Village (alone!!!) to report what's going on. Hero, Hoppa, Marica, and Jale head north. In the next town, they discover an ugly organization that preaches "the one path." They team up with
Elin and her dad
Logan to expose the dirty secrets of
Makuuto (he was hoarding all the villagers' money and he lied about being able to see the future). The two react to the book too and join you.
Hero continues north, finally reaching the library in
Sainasu. When he shows the "book" to the librarian
Diadora, she practically drools over it, as does
Conan and
Fargas behind her. Apparently, they went to the forest to search for the book but couldn't find it. Fortunately, the Hero is smart enough not to hand it over. While heading out of town, they hear
Belfrayd calling all of the townspeople's attention. He makes a bold prediction about lightning striking. The Hero is shocked that no one goes crazy at the prediction...they all stand silently, waiting for it to happen. Lightning strikes...and someone dies. Belfrayd praises the people for fully understanding the meaning of "hitotsu no michi/the one path." The Hero thinks this is all crazy. He goes forward to fight the guy, but is stopped by the others because they're supposed to be escaping. They get chased by Conan and Fargas. A battle begins...but you only do like, 6 damage to Conan. Totally impossible battle. Good thing
Bazulof is there to save the day, thinking that Conan is terrorizing a bunch of kids and women.
You escape back to your stronghold but continue to be chased. Hero sends Marica back to Citro to ask for help. She returns with Dirk, Liu, and the village chief (Marica's father). You divide up into three parties (for the first time~!) but only really control the first party this time. When the Hero is in trouble, Liu whisks the Hero away with his special powers (you finally discover that Liu did gain special powers after all). The Hero doesn't ask Liu why he kept it a secret, telling Liu that he must have his reasons. Things are looking bad for Dirk until the Empire's troops comes to save the day, namely
Claudehild and
Asuado, who both get cool cutscenes. (I totally thought Claudehild was a guy, but then they started calling her "Hime-sama." Oops.) They ask you to join forces with the Empire. Hero agrees, but wants to meet the Emperor personally, so you head off to
Eru Kaararu with them and with Marica (since she's the village chief's daughter). You find out along the way that Claudehild was from another town that got taken over.
Before heading off however, Dirk gets led astray by the librarian Diadora. He laments about how he's the weakest one now, while the Hero and everyone else are suddenly powerful. He berates himself, telling himself that he should be happy for them. When Diadora comes, she tells him that his feelings are justified. He must feel discontent because their powers were sudden and not gained through hard work like his. He follows her...
When you reach Eru Kaararu, Claudehild excuses herself. She seems to be avoiding the
Emperor. You meet the Emperor's son
Shamusu, who is about your age. You follow
Shaila, the 1st wife and leader of the knights, to the magic guild and meet
Rizuran, the 2nd wife and leader of the mages. They possess a book like yours. All of their magic came from studying the book. They ask you to take the book back and to take
Mubaru with you so he could study the books and all the special people you've gathered. Only one person in their town had ever gained powers directly from the book. They don't tell you who it is.
After this, you get more freedom in choosing what you want to do next. Lots of different job offers come in. I accepted the Shaila's job first. She wants you to check out the tower north of the river in preparation for battle. When you head over, you save Kuuga, a mysterious humanoid leopard(?) who gets chased by the organization because he looks like a monster. The knights with you freak out too (especially Asuado and
Norbert). The Hero doesn't think Kuuga is a monster at all. All he notices is that
Kuuga is hurt. You return to Eru Karasu to find a doctor.
Zafuraa and
Yuunisu are eager to treat Kuuga. Zafuraa wants to disect Kuuga, but fortunately Yuuisu stops him.
You discover that Kuuga is from another world where his kind is normal. He desperately needs to return to his world to finish a fight with a certain organization in his world (that sounds a lot like the hitotsu no michi organization in yours). You tell him about the door that he can use at your stronghold. You return to your stronghold. Kuuga tries the door but gets spit out. An elderly Ranbaru person appears and tells you that people can only pass through doors that they originally came from. That means Kuuga must use the door in the tower (that's infested by the organization.) Hoppa stops the Hero and muses that perhaps the Hero is also from another world, hence why he couldn't visit the other Marica's world. He would need to find his original door. The Hero doesn't really care where he came from and only thinks that it's too bad...he'd have liked to visit the other worlds. He also brings up how he learned special attacks from this world's book. The other Marica couldn't, so that meant you had to be of this world to learn the attacks. (Perhaps Liu is from another world too. Perhaps he really didn't react to the book and already knew those moves beforehand. Entirely possible, since I haven't gotten to see him use one of the doors yet...)
Next, I took on a job from
Kleia, the third wife who's also Shamusu's mother. You guard her on her trip back to her home village because she doesn't trust the guards (led by the 1st wife) and the mages (led by the 2nd wife) and her son spoke highly of the Hero for some reason. Nothing much happens, though you do learn that people think that perhaps Claudehild will become the fourth wife of the Emperor.
Lastly was the 2nd wife's job. When you reach Eru Kaararu, Shamasu stops the Hero and asks you to take a peak at how his half-sister is doing. Rizuran asks you to battle a fake monster created by illusion in their special room so she and Mobaru can analyze your special skills granted by the book. When Rizuran and Mobaru are busy in the lower levels of the mage guild, you sneak in and overhear them practically torturing
Manariru, Rizuran's daughter. They force her to read from the book (she has a special skill that extracts knowledge from the book) despite how it's bad for her health. Hero is furious and tries to save her, but is stopped by the prince's servant,
Taaji. You realize that the prince asked you to check up on his sister so that you will discover the ugly side of the Empire. You can't do anything about it at the moment, or else you'd antagonize the Empire.
At various points when you return to your stronghold, you meet
Atoli, who is from another world. He finds it strange that the Hero is the owner of the castle. It used to be another silver haired person who lived there. When Atoli returns the next time, the Hero tells him about how the forest suddenly appeared, and that the castle hadn't been here for long. Atoli is still sure that he didn't mistake the place. Also, the person Atoli wanted to visit sounds a lot like the person in everyone's vision when they touch the books.
The Empire asks you to help them take back the tower. However, when you reach the tower north of the river, you discover that almost all the troops were defeated already. On the bridge, you engage in a fight with Bazulof, the guy who saved you earlier in Sainasu. He apparently works for the organization. You thank him for saving you back then, but you won't back down from the fight. After the fight (in which you do barely any damage) he apologizes for calling the Hero and his friends "children and women" back in Sainasu, for you're truly warriors.
You retreat back to your stronghold. Liu comes up with another plan (apparently, he's your strategist now!). He thinks you should ask the Poopasu (a humanoid, water animal tribe) for help. (They can scale the tower walls from the water) Earlier, they attacked the stronghold trying to steal your book, but you stopped them and tried to figure out why they were being violent. Poopasu are usually peaceful. Liu thinks something is going on. (He also strangely knows a lot about the doors to other worlds and about the Poopasu). Along with Liu and Kuuga (since he's animal-like, Liu thinks the Poopasu will accept him more easily), the Hero travels to the Poopasu town, passing through a snow mountain (getting helped by a young boy and his master who knows the mountains well) to get there. The old guy is able to predict avalanches fom his senses. Liu thinks that perhaps the organization has people like him predicting about lightning and earthquakes, making it look like the organization can predict the future.
When they reach the Poopasu village, they see two Ranbaru merchants get turned away because the Poopasu refuse to see all humans. Kuuga tries and gets let in. A moment later, the Poopasu open their doors to the Hero, telling him they were touched by how the Hero saved Kuuga at the tower. The Poopasu ask you to find their special pearl that was stolen by the organization. You go to the cave, discover that the back is guarded by a huge crab renegade (monster from another world). The Hero (or maybe Liu, I forgot already) says it's perfect that Kuuga came along with them, because Renegades can only be defeated by people from another world. Together you defeat the renegade.
Nimumi is touched because they could never defeat it. When you touch the last pearl in the room, you get visions just like touching the mysterious books. Apparently, Mubaru is correct that the special knowledge only took the form of books because that's how humans understood it. They're not really books. You get ambushed by Conan outside the room (and find out that he was the one who left the renegade there as a guard). This time, you easily defeat him. Conan can't believe how strong you are now.
You return the pearl to the Poopasu, who ask if the Hero ever thought about taking off with it. He says it never crossed his mind. Liu then asks the Poopasu for help with the battle at the tower. They send three of their warriors to help them (Nimuni, Nomuno, and uh, another one...). Liu stays behind and asks the Poopasu leader about the book. Their "god" manifests in the leader and tells Liu that the book is a record of the world, but not necessarily of this world. Liu doesn't seem surprised. (He's more and more suspicious...)
Jale's mother attacks Jale now and then at the stronghold. I guess if you defeat her with Jale, she'll join you. So far, Jale's been getting KO'd pretty easily. ):
You divide into two teams, one regular party and one Poopasu party. You head off to Eru Kaararu to talk to the Emperor. The Emperor stirs up jealousy between your group and the soldiers about winning. You try to patch things up with Claudehilde, who entirely understands what the Emperor is trying to do. (Norbert is much more hotheaded). You head off to the tower afterwards, and distract Zafuraa. Meanwhile, the Poopasu enter from the sea and open the door behind Zafuraa. Zafuraa is suprised and laughs at getting outwitted. He leaves.
Asuado (I think it was him) thanks the Hero for making this succeed. Inside the tower, you watch Kuuga return to his world through the special door that connects the worlds. You finally kept your promise. When you come back into the room, you discover that the prisoners who used to be in the tower were taken elsewhere. You agree to help save the prisoners. However, the soldiers discover that the prisoners where let out. They're happily celebrating when Liu tells the Hero the bad feeling he has. Why would the organization let the prisoners out like that? Now they were all stuck in the high tower with only the bridge as their exit. Liu says that the organization probably knows that some kind of natural disaster is coming. It'll wipe them out. Stunned, the Hero tries to get the soldiers to evacuate (but how can they when they have hurt prisoners to look after?) but no one listens. He runs into Claudehilde at the door and tells her what he thinks will happen. Claudehilde says she'll go meet Shaila, who's on her way. The soldiers will listen to her orders.
When the Hero and Liu reach the other side of the bridge...an earthquake occurs. The water crashes into the tower. The Hero watches the tower collapse before his eyes. Liu stops him from running onto the collapsed bridge.
Asuado finds them and tells them that Claudehilde and the others were captured by the Empire. They have no idea what's going on. They return to the city to figure things out. Asuado discovers that the Emperor captured Claudehilde as the scapegoat for the disaster at the tower. The public reason is treason--the Empire thinks Claudehilde had inside knowledge about what was going to happen at the tower because she and her troops were far away from the tower when it collapsed. The Emperor really just wants to take Claudehilde on as his fourth wife.
The Hero says screw it. He's not joining forces with the Empire anymore. Asuado says he'll help. Taaji is relieved. He relays the prince's message, telling the Hero that the prince wants the Hero to save his sister Manariru along the way since he's betraying the Empire anyway. Hero agrees, and they divide into two parties, one to save Claudehilde, one to save Manariru. The Hero goes to save Manariru while Asuado's party goes to save Claudehilde. Asuado's really concerned about Claudehilde.
When the Hero saves Manariru, the party is ambushed by the monsters created by illusions in the mage guild room. Rizuran tells you to hand over the book. The Hero says he didn't even see the book they were hiding, and shouldn't she be more concerned about her child? Rizuran says she doesn't care if Manriru goes with them--she doesn't have long anyway. Shocked, Manariru tells her mother that she'll be taking her leave now. Rizuran lets them go without a fight after knowing they didn't take the book. She also lets out a concerned expression after everyone leaves, saying that Manariru doesn't have long to live...only if she stays in this place.
In the city, the Hero meets up with Asuado. Apparently, Claudehilde broke herself out of prison and didn't really need Asuado's help. Hero tells them they'll meet up at the river--he has someone he wants to talk to. Hero goes to talk with Shamusu, asking him to come with them. Shamasu is at first shocked that the Hero hasn't escaped yet (what was he doing endangering his sister like that?) but then he's overjoyed to see his little sister. He tells the hero that he's grateful that the Hero extended his hospitality to him too, but he can't leave. He's the future of the city, and he has a dream of making the Empire a place that his sister and everyone else will be glad to return to.
Hero leaves the city and hurries to the river. At the river, you regroup with Asuado and Claudehilde, but the Emperor and his second wife block your path. A bunch of soldiers appear, and you have to battle with all three of your parties (the Hero's, Asuado's, and Claudehilde's). Claudehilde's is the weakest party with only three members and no one with special skills yet, but they have a cool combination attack that does over 1000 damage...and leaves both male swordsmen unbalanced. The soldiers are all defeated. The Emperor belittles them again, but Claudehilde rebutts his words. In the end, he lets them go.
Hero tries to invite the swordsmen to his stronghold. While Claudehilde tries to decline, a light shines over at the stronghold. They hurry back, and the Hero is shocked that a lake suddenly appeared! Claudehilde says the lake was always there. Hero splutters and tries to explain, and then tries to get them to touch the book, but Marariru says they should hurry back to the castle and save that for later. She's worried about the people in the castle.
When Hero returns to the castle, you discover that the castle expanded by A LOT. There's now an underground, 4 floors, a farm, a lab, a hospital space...
Word comes from the Ranbaru tribe that the land shifted a lot. After touching the book, Claudehilde and the rest remember that there didn't used to be a lake. She's worried about her homeland and decides to head back to check on it.
...gods, this is over 3000 words long.
