So, this is what it feels like to be forgotten. Onew always thought he was important to people. They had always made him feel that way with their words of love and their hugs, but here he sits in the lonely apartment feeling unimportant and unloved.

Shuffling around his place all day because he had nothing to do and no desire to create errands, Onew had been looking forward to dinner with his friends. He knew he only had himself to blame for the lonely feelings because he could have gone out, sought out the comfort of friends, but he had told himself he would see them tonight and not to drag them into the doldrums with him. Unfortunately, this recurring thought meant he was putting all his hopes for happiness on this one meeting. Onew knows this dependency is not good.
The dinner tonight was for Key to introduce his friends to his new boyfriend. Key never introduced them to boyfriends and was always aloof about guys he dated, so Onew thought the dinner was a big deal. For the past two months, Key had been dating a guy by the name of Minho who, from what Key told them, sounded like a good guy who made Key feel special. By all accounts the meal itself was not going to be special; they were going to meet at Minho's favorite burger joint so he would feel more comfortable in the midst of Key's friends. Onew was going to take the opportunity to check the guy out and confirm that he was good enough for their Key. Onew knew that his personal feelings for the guy would not affect Key's feelings but, still, he would feel better knowing Minho was up to snuff.
On the surface, the meeting is important for Key and Minho's relationship but, if Onew is being honest with how he feels, the meeting is important to him. To Onew it finally solidifies how important he is to Key. Onew always felt that Key kept him at arm's length compared to his interactions with Taemin and Jonghyun. Key would call those two to go do things while, on the other hand, Onew had to initiate all interactions with Key or else they would never see each other. Also, Key would share personal things with them that Onew would only hear if one of them slipped up and told him.

Later that day, Onew has the following text conversation with Key:
Me: When should I meet you?
Key: Oh we're eating now.
Me: What?
Key: Jonghyun was hungry so we left an hour ago.
Me: Oh, can I still come by? I'll leave now.
Key: Don't worry about it. We're about to leave.
Me: oh
Key: sorry :(
