I've been playing with the idea of becoming a live-in nanny. Here is the letter that I have created to send to potential families. Try to read it like you have kids (maybe you already do) and you are looking for a nanny...tell me if it sounds like you would want to contact me:
Hello :)
My name is Yoshimi (my legal name is Sarah, but I prefer Yoshimi). I am 25 years old and have been working with children in a professional setting since 1998. I spent 1 year working with 2 year olds, 1 year working with school-aged children and I spent four years specifically working with 3's and 4's as a preschool teacher at the Boeing Family Center in Everett.
Your offer sounds outstanding and it definitely has my interest. I've spent the past 5 months traveling to different organic farms to learn about organic gardening and other sustainable methods of living. I've returned to the Puget Sound area for the fall and winter to work with children again.
I've always felt a special connection with children ever since I can remember. When I am working with children it is not only a learning experience for them but for me as well. I believe children learn best through play. From experience, I learned that when you set up the environment with enriching, creative and fun activities, the child will want to immerse themselves and learn by choice. I believe in positive reinforcement and positive redirection... always. I encourage and acknowledge children's strengths. I am a nurturer with many hugs and pats on the back :)
I have several outstanding references upon request. I also have a family reference that I nannied for while they were on vacation. I will also attach my resume.
I should let you know right away that I do not own a car. I do, however, have a drivers license and squeaky clean driving record. Also, I am a non-smoker and I take health and nutrition quite seriously. I have been recovering from years of poor nutrition and learning how to incorporate exercise in my daily routine and have successfully lost 80 lbs so far.
I am looking for a live-in situation where I can experience the workings of a family and have a part in helping out. I wish to surround myself with people who hold a positive attitude, a will to grow and learn from each other and share a supportive, loving and nurturing atmosphere. I have never nannied on a long-term basis, but I have always craved it. I think that having the time to work with a small amount of children will provide me with the opportunity to incorporate more enriching, creative and fun activities than I would be able to provide with 10 three year olds by myself. I wish to work with a family that is at least on their way to becoming more earth-conscious. Communication is my number one priority when developing a partnership. I strive to be as clear, open and honest with my communication and I expect the same so that we can all set ourselves up for success, especially for the children.
Let me know if you are interested. Please feel free to ask me anything.
Thank you, take care and I hope to hear from you soon :)
Yoshimi
