Finally...an update

It's been awhile since I've been able to sit down for an update, and really I shouldn't be.  What I should be doing is cleaning.   But I haven't really had any time for myself lately and this is what I most wanted to do so...my cleaning can wait another 30 minutes or so.

Got nearly all the shopping done for christmas.  Only have three more gifts to get.  And I only have to pick up two of them, as I already picked them out.  The third is the problem.  I cannot figure out what to get my dad.  I'll figure it out eventually, probably on the 21st or something.

Meaghan had another appointment.  This one with the Occupational Therapist.  He visited and asked tons of questions about her daily activities.  What she could do [open doors, twist open containers, dress herself...] and what she had problems with.  All that's left now is her assessment on the 4th of January.  Getting very relieved to know that it's almost over and she'll be able to get help.

I also got a call from the Speech clinic.  She's got an assessment on the 19th.  I hate taking so much time off work but it's for Meaghan.  She's more important.  My boss, luckily, is very understanding [unusual in a single man with no kids].  He never gives me a hard time about it.  I've never had a better boss really.  He's very easy to work for.  Though he does try my patience sometimes with his poor memory.

Things have been hectic.  Not just with christmas shopping.  Work has been crazy as we prepare for vacation.  Got to pay off vendors before the holidays, got to get extra checks ready for students...all kinds of little things.  Plus the HR department has been busy preparing the Staff Christmas Breakfast, which was really nice.  Only two more weeks and I'm off until January 7th.  It's going to be nice.  Plus, I should get my interview sometime after we get back from the holidays.

Oh, and the coolest thing happened here this week.  The man who was the inspiration for the movie Rainman was here in my little city this week.  Not only that but he brought his Oscar with him.  My friend Sonya got to hold it.  And there was a Leadership symposium [having to do with people with disabilities] at the Trade Centre on Friday and he was one of the speakers.  Well, he didn't really speak on anything, but he demonstrated his abilities.  Named all the presidents in order, all the states alphabetically...and a few other things.

Very cool.  I just wish I could have gotten to meet him.

But that's all that's new with me.  I'm still working on my christmas cards.  We're taking the pictures tomorrow and I should have the inserts all printed and stuffed by next weekend.  I'll do the ones being mailed out first so that I can get them out by Monday or Tuesday.  Hopefully that's enough time for them to get everywhere.

So, if anyone else wants a card, let me know.  Email me your snail mail address at capaul at gmail dot com.
