Hey, guys! As I said, I went to see Uma noite em casa de Amália. Here is a review:
Filipe La Féria himself was there! :-) I was so happy he said "Hi!" to me. I love that guy! It is because of him that Portugal can enjoy those beautiful musicals. Now, about the musical:
The scenary: I liked. Simple. It is exactly as Amália's house. The sofas, the tables, a big picture of her... Very pretty.
The plot: The story is at 1969, when Salazar, the portuguese ditactor who ruled Portugal during 40 years, died and was replaced by Marcello Caetano. Amália welcomes at her home the greatest poets and artists of that time: Ary dos Santos, Natália Correia, Vinicius de Moraes, David Mourão-Ferreira, Maluda and Alain Oulman (her "golden boy", as she said), where they spend the night, singing their songs and their poems.
The cast: Vanessa as Amália: Well, she is not Amália. She doesn't have her voice. But she did it great! Her voice, her performance... Fantastic! Different from Alexandra in Amália, o musical. But great, as I said.
Ricardo Castro as Ary dos Santos: Awsome! He was exactly as Ary, always with a glass in his hand, his theatrical voice, a convicted communist and he was not afraid of telling what he thought about the ditacture and the war... How we laughed with him!
Paula Fonseca as Natália Correia: Very good! She portraited very well Natalia's polemical character. I liked her.
Hugo Rendas as Alain Oulman: I must confess that I miss Henrique Feist as Alain Oulman when he was in Amália, o musical. But I like Hugo Rendas. Last time I saw him on stage, he was playing Herodes in Jesus Christ Superstar. In Uma noite em casa de Amália, he was a great Alain Oulman. I was very touched when he told Amália that he was going to be exiled to Paris while he was playing Aranjuez, mon amour in the piano.
Nuno Guerreiro as David Mourão-Ferreira: In Amália, o musical, he was César Seabra, Amália's husband. Now, in Uma noite em casa de Amália, he is Mourão-Ferreira, the poet who made the lyrics of some of the most famous Amális's fados, like Abandono, Maria Lisboa and Barco Negro. It was a different character, but he was very good, as usual.
Cláudia Soares as Maluda, the painter. Very nice! And when she sang Mãe preta, the former version of Barco Negro that was forbidden... Wow.
Marco Gois as Vinicus de Moraes: It was the first time I saw him. Actually it is his first time on portuguese stages, as he is brasilian (Like Vinicius). Wow! I love him! It gave me creeps when he recited O dia da criação, one of my favorite poems by Vinicus. Oh, and when sang Vinicius' songs... Eu sei que vou te amar, Para quê chorar... Wow!
Rui Andrade as the soldier who came just to visit Amália before he was going to Africa, to fight in the Colonial War. He represented every portuguese soldier who were forced to fight in Africa during that war, most of them to not coming back. How I love Rui! Great, as usual! When he sang Cantiga sua partindo-se, a portuguese medieval song, before the soldier leave, I almost cried. He has a terrific voice. My Tony in West Side Story! My Fyedka in Fiddler on the roof! ♥
Rosa Areia as Casimira, Amália's maid and confidant: I liked her. Casimira is so funny!
Pedro Martinho as Hugo Ribeiro, the sound technician that came to record a live album by Amália. I only saw him on tv but I liked to see him in theater.
And so, in short, we had so much fun in Politeama Theater. :-)
Kiss kiss
