Suspiria- I'd been really looking forward to this one for quite a while and then it appeared from out of the blue in the "Watch Instantly" section of Netflix. I've seen heaping handfuls of movies which deal with the occult in one way or another but Suspiria seemed particularly promising because the cinematography is fairly notorious for being extremely vividly colorful.
True, the color scheme didn't disappoint, but over all I had a less enjoyable time with the plot: Witches run a ballet school (?). Perhaps part of my confusion stems from the musical score by a group calling themselves "Goblins" which seemed to be twice or thrice as loud as any of the dialogue. In a theatre, this film may have been a sensory overload: Quite a rollercoaster ride of weird sounds and vivid colors but in my living room I was spending entirely too much time turning my TV's volume up and down to appropriately suspend my disbelief.
As a side note, evidently a remake of Suspiria is in the works, possibly featuring Marilyn Manson? You should see his Arabesque...
The Skeleton Key- In our day and age identity theft has become a more commonplace concern. For this reason (but not this reason alone), I found this movie to be an impressive commentary on our times filtered through a delightful allegory of Hoodoo.
