The other day at work, a little girl was in the toy section we have and I guess for some retarded reason
decided it was okay to play the harmonica, that was factory sealed and in a box. When I walked over to her I told her that she
needed to bring the harmonica to her mother because she had just played it, and the whole "germ" thing. The little girl apologized and said she would. Obviously I'm not retarded and I watched her put the harmonica back, so I walked back by and went to her mother and the story went like this:
ME: Ma'am, your daughter played one of our harmonicas and I realize it's a small toy but because she played it will need to be purchased.
MOTHER: Oh my goodness, I can't believe she did that [ walks over to daughter]
MOTHER: Well, my daughter said she didn't play it, that she just blew through it without putting her lips on it.
ME: Well, her germs are still on the harmonica and I'm not able to sell it
DAUGHTER: But I didn't play it
ME: I saw you, and my cashier heard you...
MOTHER: My daughter would never do that. But since it's the ETHICAL thing to do, I'll pay for it
ME: That's all I'm asking
Apparently, when I walked away she went to my manager and said I was rude and I made her daughter cry for calling her a liar and that I was scary or something. Later on in the night after the lady had made a big deal about it they called the STORE and asked for me. It pretty much went as follows:
MOTHER: Maria, you made my daughter cry because you were very rude and scary to her
DAUGHTER: You made me cry. You're mean and scary
OTHER DAUGHTER: You made my sister cry...
After that I hung up. How spitful can people be!
Today when I called work for my schedule my manager said the lady had called corporate and that now I HAVE to write a letter of apology to the little girl. WHAT THE FUCK...I'm not writing anything, that's a bunch of bullshit and they're only making me do that because they want their money. My manager agrees that what I did wasn't wrong but since the district manager said I had to, she has to make me.
