Today, in the style of Crapaudmatic at Blogspot, I'm going to take you on a walk that I made yesterday around my nearest small town. Our starting point is Green Drive.
And yes, it used to be the carriage/driveway to the nearby Hall.
Just in case you were in any doubt, this sign reassures you of your location. T'is funky, no? : ) Four species of bat are known to live in boxes provided for them in this Trust managed woodland.
As Bilbo said, the road goes ever on and on. This drive is about a mile, I believe. I'm roughly halfway down at this point.
Hmm, I wonder where that goes? Squirrel wood? Sounds intriguing.
But no, t'was a fib. It led to a school and thence to houses. Now we're heading to the main road into town. On the way, we pass this very doodie park entrance. Interesting use of timber--very tactile. All the kids touch it as they pass, which makes me smile. Beyond is the playground and skatepark.
Badgers walk West. You didn't know that, did you? Neither did I, but it says so, right there. ;D
Now we reach a side street that leads to the square. Looking towards the square.
Standing on the edge of the square. There was a small market there today, hence all the people, which meant I couldn't show you the pebble mosiac in the centre. Another day then.
The far side of the square looking towards the coast.
Now standing at the end of that road and looking back at the square. The columned building on the right is the Assembly Rooms, where, I learned, a quilt group used to meet. 'Used to'. Hmm. The white building at the far end of shot is the local department store. Expensive liek woah but cool for window shopping and the occasional treat.
Now I am in need of tea and noms so I head down a side street off the square to one of my favourite cafes, 'Secretly Famous'. When dry, I sit in the little back yard, and when wet, I sit inside. By the real log fire if there's space.
Thus refreshed, I head out onto The Green, a long strip of grassed area that runs along the 'coast' and which, come weekend, throngs with families playing football/ cricket/ kite-flying/ teaching dogs to chase frisbees/ you name it. And here I met Sasha. Isn't she cute? WANT!! Sasha was not keen on me pointing the camera at her, hence the odd look with which she's favouring me. Her mistress and I had a chat about her and doggies in general. Lovely lady. : )
The main street, heading seiz-me. Not bad, considering I took it from the top deck of the bus...
Seen along the way: Crataegus double rose flowered form.
Crataegus double red flowered form. With lichen. (Red May, or Hawthorn, of course.)
