There are times I don't understand people professing to be Christian

For those not in the US (since I presume Europeans are getting coverage of real news like the Syrian refugee crisis), it was recently ruled that there is no constitutional reason why homosexuals cannot marry and the Supreme Court declared it perfectly legal. Now there are those who profess to be Christian who claim it is ruining the sanctity of marriage. News flash: no one is forcing your congretation to conduct homosexual marriages (of course they fear a not yet).

Anyway, a county clerk in Kentucky who is in charge of issuing marriage licenses has been jailed for following to do her job. She says that since she doesn't believe in homosexual marriage, it would compromise her beliefs to issue the license. Mind you, she isn't marrying them. She's merely verifying they are adults who aren't already married.

Well, the Christian right is up in arms because this is an attack against Christianity (even though they have the narrowest definiton of the religion and will generally only take care of their own as everyone else is damned to Hell even if they live a good and moral life because if you don't follow their sect, how can you be good and moral?) because we have freedom of religion here. What they fail to grasp is that there is also separation of church and state and that you must follow the law of the land even if it goes against your religion. The law of the land trumps your ability to claim you can't do a part of your job because of your religion. We also have freedom from religion. This was founded as a secular nation. One nation under God came about during the red scare period in the 1950s since they were 'godless commie bastards'.

Just boggles my mind how hateful and spiteful these supposed Christians can be. Nowhere did Christ condemn homosexuality, and it has been around for all of human history. In fact the Bible never defines marriage.

Again, not posting this on Facebook because while I'm pretty sure the family is pretty open minded (I know mine is and pretty sure same goes for J's since his sister's husband's sister is married to a woman), but they are also big fans of Billy Graham and his son Franklin who have both spoken out quite vehemently on how wrong homosexuality is.

No one is trying to turn them gay. They are just small minded bigots. That said, I don't think small business owners should be forced to provide services to a gay wedding if it bothers them on religious grounds. Would we get up in arms if it had been a Satanic ceremony they were being asked to provide services for and they refused? I know it's a fine line. Now if they refused to serve someone period because they were gay, that would be wrong (and one of these bakers had provided a birthday cake to the gay person previously, but did not want to do a wedding cake). But it would really be nice if they could just let go of the hate and love their fellow man and accept them for what they are just like Jesus preached.
