What up, kids?
Just wanted to drop in a line and say that I'm not dead. Still doing the freelance game design thing in Philly, but I haven't really posted about it thus far because the project I've spent most of my energies on lately is still under a pledge of confidentiality. Hopefully, in a few more months I'll be able to talk about it here, but as of right now I can't. All of this makes for very frustrating blogging.
Last weekend, though, the game developer I've been working with arranged a meeting with one of his old colleagues from their days together at SPI, a long-defunct wargames company. They were both very impressed with the preproduction copy of War Patrol I showed them, and agreed to endorse the game to GMT. I need to do a final polish on the prototype before it can be submitted, but hopefully before the end of the year War Patrol will be on its way.
Which, frankly, will be a bit of a relief, because I'm ready to move on to something else. :-)
I'm also taking the PA nurse's aide exam a week from today, which will hopefully let me finally get some gainful employment and my foot in the door in the health care field. I still want to end up there eventually, I think, even though this game design thing is looking more and more serious every time I turn around. We'll see.
osirusbrisbane, I haven't been ignoring your questions about breaking into the industry, but I'm not really sure how to answer them either. Drop me an email (I think you have my addy), and we can set up a time to talk about it in real time if you want. Some things are best communicated in conversation, you know?
