Gabriel looked up from repairing the well-worn copy of Dante's Inferno, sensing the presence - and Presence - drawing near.

"Hello, Uriel," he smiled. "I was beginning to wonder if I was mistaken in sensing your presence." He sniffed gingerly. "Is that paint I smell?"

"That would be quite an interesting mistake," Uriel remarked calmly, smiling just a bit in response. He then spread his wings just enough to show the paint stains before folding them again. "Indeed it is. I was painting my room until I finally decided to investigate all the presences I've sensed around here."

Gabriel walked out from behind his desk, giving Uriel a light one-armed hug. He pulled back slightly.

"I meant that I could sense you ever since I arrived, and I already knew that you were here anyway, but I saw no other sign that you were around." He wrinkled his nose. "Do you intend to keep your wings that way? I look forward to seeing your room, though."

Gabriel himself was no good at art, but he did appreciate it, perhaps all the more for being completely unable to create art himself.

"That might be because I haven't exactly been around here to show any other signs of myself," Uriel said somewhat reasonably. Glancing at his wings, he blinked. "I... suppose not." Shaking his wings just a bit, not that it was needed, he made the coloured spots disappear as though they'd never been there. "It's just rather hard to avoid them when you're working." ...Well, in reality, it would only have taken a bit of concentration, but when he was working on his art, he wanted no other distractions. "You're welcome to see it whenever you wish."

Gabriel caught the mirror and made it vanish, before passing a hand over his face to erase the moustache as well.

"I think you looked better with a moustache," he joked, standing up, feeling his powers take care of all remaining lightheadedness. "Mere children, Uriel? Children are often the ones who are closest to Him, in their innocence and love."

There was still a feather clinging to Uriel's hair; he reached out and removed it, pocketing it carefully. It wouldn't do for angel feathers to be left lying about.

"We? I thought I was the one who crashed into a tree, although I'm touched by your solidarity." It felt so absurd, even as he said it. The great Messenger, crashing into a tree. He hoped Uriel wouldn't mention it to anyone else. "I have no objection to that, though, as long as we avoid the trees." He spread his wings, shaking off the leaves clinging to them. "No racing this time?"

"Of course, of course. I didn't mean to belittle them for the good of their hearts, merely that they are rarely considered mature; in fact, they are generally the exact opposite thereof. It is perhaps the very same state of lack of understanding that causes both their innocence and their immaturity." He shrugged. "And we, as I might remind, are not children. Our purity and love is quite different in origin, and thus we also have quite different standards of maturity to meet."

He tilted his head to the side, smiling a bit. "Well, I could have certainly said it was merely your own mistake," he said, "but I didn't feel it would have been ultimately fair. After all, both of us were racing; I was merely slightly more fortunate with my landing." He spread his wings as well, stretching them out, the feathers glistening in the sunlight. "...Agreed. Racing might indeed be a bad idea."

Gabriel nodded. "True. But every now and then, it can be freeing to let that maturity drop very briefly, to just have fun. You seemed to enjoy it yourself."

His lips twitched. "Slightly." He pressed his fingers to his forehead lightly to get rid of the bruise.

The wing picked up, ruffling their feathers, and he smiled, holding out a hand to Uriel, preparing himself to take off. "Well, what are you waiting for?"
