Finally, the Dawn

A small but powerful gust of wind erupted before a large building. To anyone passing, one would see a manor or a hotel, but to the being that appeared within that movement of air, it was home.

Raphael’s smile could have lit up the afternoon sky as he adjusted the bags he carried over his shoulder. One carried his belongings- his new Journal and writing instruments, a few books, changes of clothes and other various necessities for travel. The other carried gifts, little things he had acquired in his travels that he wanted to bring home for others.

For a moment, he stood and closed his eyes behind the dark shades, mind drifting to the time of his first arrival. So much… So much had changed since that fateful night that he was found, bleeding and injured and afraid, by Joe and brought into the safety of the manor. Since then, he had found a new family, but also, had come to wrestle with his Faith in ways that he would never have thought possible for one of the Seven.

”Father’s just tryin’ to teach ya to rely on others instead of goin’ it alone…”

“For now… Even if you think he doesn’t love you, know that we do..”

He remembers wings and tears and being wrapped in warmth and Love…

“Why, Raphael…? Why would you hurt yourself…?”

He remembers a white wolf nuzzling him as he brushes her fur, sharing a secret only between the two of them…

He feels Love and Hope within a tiny church, his beloved older brother whispering to him, comforting, even knowing the secrets within the pages of that infernal Journal.

“You asked for help… Please let me help…”

Raphael’s gaze shifted to that tiny plant, still growing despite being pruned, a piece of it cut away. His free hand moved to subconsciously touch his hair. It had been cut short, though it wouldn’t be for long, he knew, but for now, it seemed to signify an outward manifestation to the change within. That, and the tiny wings now wriggling furiously beneath the warmth that awakened them.

When he first arrived, he had been injured, afraid… broken… The angel who cut away his wings, who doubted his Purpose, his Father’s Love…

The gentle Healer was finally healed himself, and, pulling his sunglasses from his face to tuck into his coat, he walked up the steps to see his family.
