Out for a run in the woods in the early morning, Kirby enjoyed the quiet and solitude.

It wasn't precisely that she was craving solitude, but at this time of the day she didn't seem to have any choice of it, so she might just as well enjoy it.

She had invited along her former colleague, but he was certainly no morning person. She would have invited her target, but he had either dug himself in in the library or otherwise already set off without her. She would have bet the angels with their wings weren't up for a good run, asking Dawson was certainly out of the question for obvious reasons, and Methos had commented a knock on his door with a muttered curse and a threat of imminent, painful death. The basketball-playing Latino had never answered her knock at all.

She grinned to herself as she imagined waking both of them out of their surely highly deserved sleeps. What WERE they doing for a living anyway? They seemed on constant holiday.

Kirby increased her speed a little, settling into the rhythm of her run, just as she spotted... what?

An animal for sure, and coloured unusually light. For a moment she could have sworn it was a wolf. She changed direction, taking care to move as silently as possible.

Cloud was following the trail of a rabbit, nose on the ground, making sure she didn't lose the scent. Her mouth already watered at the prospect of getting to chew the juicy meat, crunch the bones between her teeth...

When the scent got fresher and her ears picked up on the small sounds the rabbit made, munching on something, Cloud attacked, racing from between the trees and going straight for her breakfast. The rabbit bolted and she followed, giving chase, keeping both her eyes on her prey.

The chase was short and successful and after one forceful bite that broke the rabbit's neck Cloud grabbed the rabbit with her teeth and found a comfortable spot nearby to lie down and start eating the rabbit.

Holding the dead rabbit down with her front paws she tore into the body, ripping out a chunk of flesh. She growled in a content way while she chewed on the bite.

Suddenly her ears picked up a sound and she jumped up, ears moving, teeth grabbing her breakfast as she wasn't willing to lose the rabbit should she have to leave. Her eyes showed her something moving between the trees, still some distance away, and she tensed, ready to bolt...

Kirby stood on tiptoe to get a glance. She caught a flash of white among the greens and browns. Yes... there was the animal. And it was beautiful.

Cloud stared at the woman she could make out, frozen. Why on earth did the other inhabitants of the manor have to roam the woods at exactly the same time she did? Couldn't they stay inside? Or at least in a part of the woods she wasn't in?

She stayed where she was, hoping the woman would be afraid of wolves and go away, but she stayed ready to bolt the moment the woman tried to approach. Blood dripped from the dead rabbit between her teeth.

The animal had obviously caught itself breakfast not too long ago. Not wanting to disturb it, Kirby crouched down and tried to move as little as possible as she watched.

Cloud watched the woman crouch down and decided she was no immediate danger. So she put the rabbit to the ground again, holding it down with her front paws, and continued eating.

But she stayed alert, her ears twitching and her eyes always returning to the woman, making sure she didn't come closer or try anything or something.

Was that even a wolf at all? Kirby had never had much on an interest in zoology, except, maybe, in certain kinds of reptiles and critters with body parts or secretions that could be used to complement her weaponry. For all she knew, it could just as well be some breed of dog.

Whatever it was, it was pretty. And if it was a dog, it might be tame.

Carefully, she tried to sneak a little closer.

The moment she saw and heard the woman try to get closer, Cloud was up on all four feet, ears twitching. The next moment she had grabbed her breakfast between her teeth and bolted.

She didn't know what intentions the woman had but best not to risk anything. She ran as fast as she could to get deeper into the woods, aways from harm and to a place where she could enjoy her breakfast and relax a bit before she had to go back to her clothes.

Well, that clearly hadn't went the way she had intended. What a pretty animal, though. Kirby wondered if she could somehow manage to trap it. The pelt would have to be worth something, or, more so, the live animal, probably.

Too bad she didn't really have any experience in trapping four-legged prey.
