Date: 12 May 2003 Place: Park behind the manor Status: Public (maybe Raphael wants to be attracted by him after fleeing from Belial? But everyone welcome.) Summary: Jarod contemplates the situation
Raphael crunched on some cookie bits before answering. "Well, Gabriel works in the library. I'm not sure what Aziraphale or Michael are doing. And I... Well..." His cheeks colored a little. "I've been recovering." Since your dad threw me out of Heaven! he thought bitterly.
The Master Physician, he remembered, smiling at him. "I was attacked some time ago." He stretched a wing, where one of the larger scars was still visible. "But it's getting better. I can fly at least."
"Is whoever did that to you likely to follow you here?"
Jarod was still concerned. Even though this indicated that the winged men were not kept prisoners in the stricter sense, someone or something preying on them was disconcerting. Those scars looked like claw marks. Come to think of it...
"I was attacked by a Hellbeast," he admitted as if it were worthy of eternal shame. "You know, those..." Raphael stopped, realizing if the Son didn't know He was the Son he wouldn't know what a Hellbeast was, either.
"It uhm... has claws. Larger than a lion's. Went right through me." He licked some ice cream non-chalantly.
"Sounds like a beast from hell indeed," Jarod commented. "What do they look like? Is it loose? What does one usually do when one meets them?"
Either this was a species he had never heard of before, or another name for some species he did know about but not by that name. He tried to figure out what kind of animal would have larger claws than a lion's. He could think of some with larger teeth in any case.
"Most are very large," he explained, grimacing slightly. "They look like a furless dog but instead of fur they have scales. And they have a lot of muscle and most have the quick reflexes of a cat. That's why they're hard to fight off. The one that attacked me..." And my poor receptionist... came to just below my collarbone. They aim for the wings first, if one has them, as most creatures of Hell do. The one that I saw... It melted. I uhm... made the fire extinguishers go off and blessed the water supply."
Raphael remembered that had been one of the big things that had left him so exhausted. That, and healing that teenaged girl with quickly draining resources before he left. He often wondered what become of that tiny office, but kind of feared checking a newspaper about it.
"Where does one usually find them?" Jarod continued his questions, taking mental notes. "How do you fight them? Do they have owners? Can they be made into pets?"
"They're working animals?" Jarod asked. "If we caught one, do you think they can be tamed? Or are they rather intelligent and more like a sentient being than an animal?"
"They might be interesting to study still," Jarod insisted. He figured it might be a bad idea to ask for a way to attract one, so he filed that away for later.
They were getting close to the manor again anyway.
Raphael shrugged a little, the wing rustling slightly as he did. "If you survive capturing it I'm sure there's a way to cage it." He shivered. "I hope to never find out if it is possible."

He looked very concerned. "I'm a doctor. Maybe I can help."

"Those look deep," he noticed. "What happened? Who attacked you? Did it happen here in the manor?"
