Rumor has it [Hikaru/Paula]

Paula couldn’t concentrate. No matter how hard she tried to focus on the work that had accumulated in her absence, her mind kept wandering back to Hikaru. He was still treating her like she was made of glass. Every kiss and every touch was soft and tender, and whenever she tried to take things farther he just wrapped her in his arms and kissed her on the forehead. It had been almost two weeks since the incident with the other McCoy, and her bruises were fading. They didn’t even hurt any more. Paula had tried being patient, both with herself and with Hikaru, reasoning that they needed time to get over the shock. But she missed the feel of his body against her, inside her, and when she’d kissed him the night before he’d just tucked her under the covers and stroked her hair, then gone back to the book he was reading.

She had slipped into the shower with him that morning, deciding it was time to be more direct. Paula had waited until she heard the shower running and then crawled out of bed and slipped into the bathroom, discarding her nightshirt in a heap. She’d slipped into the shower and pressed against his back, scattering kisses over his shoulders while her hands slid around to stroke him. He’d been hard, his morning erection impressive, and Paula had reveled in his guttural moans for approximately thirty seconds. That had been how long it had taken him to reach down and cover her hands with his, gently pushing them aside. She was fairly certain she’d whined and stamped her foot from the sheer frustration but Hikaru just turned around and gave her a soft kiss, then began bathing her. When she figured out that was all he was going to do, Paula had leaned back against the wall, dejected. I don’t want to hurt you, baby, he told her for the millionth time. She almost growled.

It was time for more drastic measures, she decided with a scowl. Paula rested her chin in her hand, staring unseeing at the console while she daydreamed about pouncing on Hikaru in the back of the botany lab or dragging him deep into the arboretum, stripping off all her clothes and tackling him. The way she felt right now, they’d never make it back to either of their rooms.

Her reverie was shattered by high-pitched chatter from somewhere nearby. She looked up, cross. I can’t even get any in my imagination, she grumbled to herself. Paula stood up and went searching for the source of the noise, curious in spite of her bad mood. She found a cluster of people around Ensign Desai, who was reading something aloud and getting interrupted by squeals every second or third word.

Paula leaned against the counter, bemused. “What’s all the excitement about?” she asked. Her eyebrows raised when five ensigns all shot upright from where they were grouped around Desai, looking everywhere but at her.

“Um…” Ensign Desai flushed. “Well, ma’am, there’s another of those stories...”

Paula chuckled. She didn’t even need to ask what Desai was talking about. The first of the anonymous stories had surfaced the previous week. She’d always had a bit of a crush on Admiral Pike, so she’d enjoyed the story as sort of a guilty pleasure. “Another one? Who is it now?” She leaned in to read over Desai’s shoulder and then froze, her eyes wide as she caught Hikaru’s name and then skimmed back to the top to read every word.

Hikaru. And Pavel. Paula blinked when she finished reading. The story was sweet, not anywhere near as overtly sexy as the one that had come before. But something about it left her mouth dry, and she was squirming in her chair as she began typing a message to Hikaru, the image of him kissing Chekov fresh in her mind.

Private to Hikaru Sulu:

Guess what I just read.
