I don't usually stay up this late, but I must have lost track of time. I might as well give it another couple of hours, since I'm up...

And I may as well ask. I'm compiling information on Earth's Golden Age of Sailing. I'd appreciate suggestions for resources I may have overlooked.

I might have a sailing book somewhere. I'll have to search through my books.

Hardly. No one else is going to appreciate those books.

You must appreciate them, if you've held onto them for so long.

I collect old books and have probably read all of them. I don't retain everything I read, but I try. I got a lot of them from my grandfather, who also had quite the library going.

There's nothing quite like holding a piece of history in your hands, is there? Being able to look at those books and say to yourself "This was printed over a century ago"...

And it's such a fascinating window in the societal structure and mindset of the era in which the book was printed. So many people overlook literature as a means of gleaning information about a time period, but I've found it to be one of my more valuable resources. There's an astounding amount of literature that's been preserved, but very little in the way of other examples of printed material.

Staring at a PADD all day does make you yearn for printed literature. I think you are onto something about finding societal structures in literature, even fiction.

I found a copy of Moby Dick in the ship's archive, and it's been incredibly helpful, actually.
