seventh translation // voice/action

The house is minus one crystal ball, and plus one Captain.

Hopefully it'll stay that way for a while.

[Passersby might notice Uhura outside house #7. What is she doing? Well, she's got a small fire going, of all things. She also has a moderately-sized stack of papers, covered in a neat, feminine hand.

She's burning them, carefully, one by one.]

uhura is not impressed by this, +voice, she doesn't like close calls, hailing frequencies open, +action

[ Kirk leans in the doorway of House 7. All bandaged up now. ]

You missed me?

In a manner of speaking.

Besides, I don't think Spock likes being acting captain much.

He did fine, I'm sure. Not that hard when there isn't much to be a captain of here. [ Grumble. ]

What's with the fire, lieutenant?

Of course he did fine. I just don't think he likes it. Besides, you never know. He might've been concerned for your safety.

[She pauses, then begins burning another sheet of paper.] There was an experiment last week. I'm just burning the evidence.

I'm fine. [ He isn't, but that's besides the point. ]

That embarrassing?

[She gives him a quick once-over with her eyes.] Not right now, you're not. But you will be.

[Another pause.] It could've been very embarrassing, for everyone, except I kept myself from putting it in the journal. I hate this place. I hate being screwed with.

[She looks at a particular sheet of paper, then crumples it up and tosses it on the fire with a certain amount of force.] It could've... ruined things.

These bastards don't really seem to care. [ He shifts and stands up, slowly making his way over to stand next to her. ]

You probably don't want to talk about it. I don't really need to know. But, if you need to, I'm open for it.

It's not important, just... gossip. A lot of it isn't even true.

But some of it is. [Can you tell she hates herself a little for having written it down even somewhere away from the journals? Good thing that was the last of the stuff she'd written about Spock that she just burned.]

About you and Spock.

[She blinks. It might almost be a flinch.] Some of it was. Some of it was about you.

Did you tell them about the night we met?

Don't worry, I kept it all off the journals.

Your rejection and subsequent ass-kicking are still safe with me.

...And Spock, he knows, too. [Yeah, she couldn't resist that one.]

[ 8(((( My manhood, Uhura. Why do you do this? ]

Yeah, well, Spock beat my ass onto the Enterprise console. I'm sure that's no news to him by this point.

[Because you need a little humble pie now and then, Captain. It's good for the soul.]

Yeah, it wasn't news to him when he met you.

[ Humble pie tastes like fuzzy mouth when Bones shoves things into my neck. :( ]

My reputation made it up that high before the Kobayashi Maru? [ grins. ACCOMPLISHED. ]
