It’s that very special time of the year where my favourite show (i.e. Doctor Who) gives me a Christmas special. And this year, Top Gear joined in on the fun to make the Christmas days extra jolly. I felt like some kind of reaction post was needed to get my squee and other feelings out, so well… here it is.
Doctor Who
I liked it. It wasn’t my favourite Christmas special, but it was still very enjoyable and had some very nice moments.
Some random things I liked:
- Hee, roleplay. I love Rory in his centurion outfit <3
- Arthur Darvills name in the opening credits :DD THIS MADE ME SO EXCITED! I knew it would be there, but STILL - RORYYY :D
- Michael Gambon was great. Except as Dumbledore, I always like Michael Gambon. And little Kazran was adorable.
- The Doctor trying (but failing miserably) at doing card tricks made me giggly. Adorable.
- I loved the flying fish
- Kazran and Abigails story was kind of cute
- The Doctor’s advice on snogging - “otherwise you end up in your room designing a new screwdriver” hee…
- Rory’s punchy greeting of the Doctor was AWESOME - I want more OT3 Team Tardis bonding time :D And I want the Doctor and Rory to hug… And soon! Please Moff?
I’m a bit sad there wasn’t more Amy and Rory, as I was looking forward to a Christmas special where the Doctor had companions (and everything could always benefit from MORE RORY), but that’s alright. Soon there will be a whole series with them anyway…
As for the plot - is that even legal? Going back and changing someone’s past just seems wrong on so many levels. And isn’t there some kind of rule against going back and deliberately changing someone’s life? The Doctor can manipulate people’s hearts and minds all he wants, but not their timeline! I feel like there should be consequences… And how could Kazran hug himself? WHAT ABOUT THE REAPERS??? I am confused.
Hopefully Moff will take a break from the timey-wimey for a while, because I’ve kind of had enough confusion for now ;) The trailer for season 6 looked great though - I’m looking forward to it.
Top Gear
I LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW! This was the highlight of my Christmas TV this year - an honour that normally belongs to DW, but well… Top Gears just more fun :D
I mean… beautiful landscapes, rubbish cars, old Testament Nascar racing, crazy disguises, fire, and tanks, and Jezza ‘walking’ on water and ‘curing’ the sick, and Nintendo DS, and Jeebus!Stig - what more could you possibly want in a Christmas special? Nothing, I tell you, NOTHING!
James accident looked bad though - OUCH! Blood and memory loss and everything…
To conclude: TG special = fricking awesome.
