Scarlet whirled at the sound of a child's voice. She narrowed her eyes dangerously. What was a child doing talking to her? Children didn't talk to her. Something in the back of her mind realized that this was Marlene. She was one of the children Tifa had, wasn't she?
Yes, Scarlet remembered her when she had borrowed clothes. The girl hadn't seen her though and she didn't blame them at all from keeping Marlene away from her. Scarlet was still dangerous until proven otherwise.
"I'm looking for things that are useful." She answered the same way she would answer an adult. Scarlet did not do babytalk.
Was this child... interacting with her? Scarlet could have balked, probably would have before her death and rebirth. What was she doing, didn't she have a parental figure to watch her?
Tifa needed to reign these children in better. Scarlet crossed her arms and sighed. "You probably won't understand."
Now she was being ... childish. Scarlet huffed and turned her pretty nose up. "I'm certain you don't want to dig around for gears and look at fuses to see if they're blown. This isn't a game."
Scarlet curled her lip to snap at her, but then she was reminded that a lot of people poo pooed her too when she was trying to learn. And she had been about Marlene's age.
Regardless, another set of eyes in this mess may be helpful and children did have amazing eyesight. She pulled out a few examples from her bag. "they look like this, the coil in the center can't be broken, bent or have bubbles in it though. If you can find me fifty of them, then maybe we can talk about you being useful."
Scarlet began pulling through the mess herself, once the child had a job to do she assumed that the girl would be occupied. Scarlet ripped wires and broken chunks off of what used to be a turret of some sort and sighed. Figures, die and end up digging through the shit you left behind. Way to go, Gaia. Way to go.
Scarlet sucked in a breath at the sight of the young girl dangling above metal. "Get off of that you little twit! You want a Tetanus shot?" She stalked up to the pile and made sure that Marlene got down softly. "Rust gives you all sorts of reactions. Wear gloves."
She did peer at the item though, It was smooth and well rounded. It reminded Scarlet of part of the Proud Clod. She bit her unpainted lip. "It may come in handy later, but we don't have anything large enough yet. Did you get those fuses?"
"Just be more careful." Scarlet tried to hone the edge from her voice, children were delicate. She probably didn't manage that entirely.
The fuses were in fact, all in good order at Scarlet's glance. It was fairly impressive. "You're good at this." That was just a statement of fact and not a compliment really. She picked through them with a little more thought.
"Alright, if you want to make yourself useful. I think I have some more work you could do."
"Right. Come along then. The shop needs straightened and I have a lot of files and things that need found. I'll make sure there's food and the like here."
Scarlet didn't have money, but she could cook and bake. It was mathematics, really, adding and mixing things was so similar to chemistry that it was second nature to her.
