Sadly yes. "Fair Witness"--it's Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land.

No, that's right: when on duty, a Fair Witness wears a white robe. Why do I know these things?

Because it's Heinlein's one good book! (OK, that's a little unfair - I'm thinking of On A Pale Horse.)

Er, that's Anthony, not Heinlein. Wrong misogynist.

Heinlein actually did have good books, most of them, I think, written before Stranger. But that one is probably much, much preachier than it needs to be.

Most of his later-in-life books were much preachier than they needed to be. But I still liked them. :)
