Three Kindred - Shining Ones - First Draft

The Shining Ones are the Gods and Goddesses that we worship. They are usually associated with the Heavens, though there are of course exceptions to this. The Gods can be called upon for help with anything that falls within their area of concern or, if you have a particularly close relationship with a deity, than you could ask for their aid even with things that fall outside their area of interest.

In ancient Greece there were several different classes of Gods but three of the bigger/well known categories are the Protogenoi, the Titans, and the Olympians. The Protogenoi are the first born Gods and include amongst them Gaia, the Earth; Uranus, the dome of Heaven; Pontos, the Sea; Nyx, Night; etc. The Titans are the children of the Protogenoi and include among their number Helios, the Sun; Selene, the Moon; Eos, the Dawn; Rhea and Kronos, mother and father of the Olympians, etc. The Olympians are primarily considered to be the twelve or thirteen major Gods of the Greek pantheon (Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hera, Hermes, Poseidon, Zeus, & Hestia) and their extended family and functionaries. These are certainly not these only categories of deities though. There are also the Apotheothenai, the deified Heroes; the Ouranioi, the Sky Gods; the Halioi, the Sea Gods; the Khthonioi, the Underworld Gods; the Georgikoi, the Agricultural Earth Gods; the Nomioi, the Pastoral Earth Gods; and the Polikoi, the City Gods. The categories are also not clearly defined, one deity can fall in to several of the above categories at one time.

In my personal practice I primarily worship the Greek Gods, though I also sometimes honor the Celtic and Norse deities as a nod to my heritage. When I pray for assistance I usually direct my prayers to the deity under whose domain my request might fall and it is to the Gods that the majority of my worship and offerings are directed. The Olympians form the primary focus of my daily devotions, but I also honor several non-Olympian deities on a regular basis. I honor the Gods by reading hymns, burning incense, making libations, and sometimes by offering food or some other object that I have made.
