I want to go to Afghanistan.For all the wrong reasons. I don't want to go because of patriotism or helping the war effort, saving lives with the steel blanket and all. I want to go so I can say I was there.
I want to say I've been to a war zone and made it back alive. I want to be able to look at my oldest friends as a veteran and I want to look at my brother and father and grandfather as equals.
Those are the wrong reasons to go, mercenary reasons. You know what though? My nation doesn't care, it wants warm bodies to throw into the fight, it'll forgive me for my selfishness and bloodlust.
But will you?
