Excerpt and OOC of 'Intimate of Devils' 13

Jan 07, 2011 00:48

[I am going to share the following, as Cassius' has become very fond of the Quiet Deviless, and the first time she asked to speak with them on their soul, they took their leave of her out in public. Cassius is very adamant to keep their soul, and until then had hoped (but sadly remained guarded to the possibility that it was just for their soul) that it was just a relationship in friendship. The way she treated her little bat, and her love of poetry, and quiet nature were/are things Cassius took to mean she was more than just the typical soul-greedy devil. But the trust and hope was wavered when she invited Cassius to the salon with Abstractions, and with Cassius' spying. And then it was mostly completely crushed when she asked to talk seriously on "relieving their burden". It really hurt Cassius. And so I have decided to select the "Beg her to leave you alone" option. I expect it will completely ruin my "an Intimate of Devils" status, but for the Quiet Deviless to ask to speak on Cassius' soul a second time...Well it is certainly worth losing the level for my character's sake.]

"A serious offer" [by @EmilyStAubert]

The time has come. The Quiet Deviless wishes to speak to you about your soul.

Be cautious:
Tell her you are ready to talk about Abstraction, but prepare your defences. You may learn something worth the risk you'll be taking.
This branch costs 7 Fate to play.

Beg her to leave you alone:
Entreat the Deviless to accept your wish to keep your soul.

Risk letting her try to convince you:
You can resist her flattery. Almost certainly. And if you let her think your guard is down, you may learn very valuable secrets.[Warning: If you are unlucky, she may be more persuasive than you realise.]
(A matter of luck: a sure thing. Or is it?)

Beg her to leave you alone:

"A silent reproach" [by @EmilyStAubert]

The lady bows her head in quiet acknowledgement. When she lifts it, tears glitter in her eyes, and as you watch, she begins to weep. Her hands cover her mouth, and she doesn't make a sound. You offer her your handkerchief, and she snatches it with force, raking your hand with red-hot, needle-sharp nails. Those marks will last for weeks, but her displeasure much longer.

An occurrence! Your 'an Intimate of Devils' Quality is now 8!
You've gained a new quality: Wounds at 2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[I won't write anything in-character on this, but basically Cassius is very, very hurt. They feel a bit bad for making her cry, but the fact that she showed some anger has deeply disturbed them. She should not seem so upset over Cassius' wish to keep their soul. Were they not worth any more than that? Was all the times they spent together just because she wanted Cassius' soul? My character has probably gone to the University to forget things for awhile by hanging-out with the Stoats.]
