Also how renown as a detective (among other things) they have become on their own, mostly restarting from scratch. They had a bit of a reputation on The Surface, but it was more as their partner's-partner. ...Then again it all isn't under their real name, and in turn not really their real identity.

Why did Cassius choose to not go by their full name? Merely to hide their gender, or is it a different reason?

A longer is that when they started socialising it was very much like two widows finding distraction and comfort in each other and in getting into mischief. It started off as just two lonely and sad people drinking & talking together, but then Cassius began to see that Narciso wasn't 'the rake with his head in the clouds' they thought he was, and I guess Narciso began to see the real Cassius. And he became one of their closest friends (although they were unsure of how he felt in return), but then after drinking they'd occasionally steal kisses from each other, and for some reason he started making their heart flutter. [To be able to not just feel attracted to, but to love after so long of closing themself, it felt very strange and scary.]
To Cassius, Narciso is smarter, deeper and more capable than he lets on/shows. He can get them to reach outside of their comfort-zone in most things, and act like a partner/Alluring Accomplice.
