SCAdian plans
So, I went to the Bog Chaos last weekend, and I got to talk with Katja (I forget her LJ id) which was neat. What follows is part of an email I sent to her, just talking about what I want to do in the SCA.
I'd mentioned my "grand plans" when we spoke. There are a couple things I'd really like to do. First, along with continuing to conduct the BMDL choir, I'd like to write choral music for the choir. I'd need to research certain composers and try to emulate their style, but I'd be up for trying it. I've already written an instrumental piece, a recorder quartet for Baroness Mistress Elizabeth's larueling at last year's Pennsic, and that was really cool. I could even write a piece or two about the BMDL or Æthelmearc and see how those go over. It would be a way of using my skill, learning something new, and having fun with it.
Another thing is the Daiko drums. Jenn and I camp with Yama Kaminari at Pennsic and are members. They're wonderful folks who we adore and they do awesome stuff. I really like the drums that Ogami made. I know that with more knowledge about the period aspect of them that I could teach classes about them. I've already written about four or five pieces for the drum ensemble, known as Reimei Ten Kai Daiko, and we play at Pennsic for several occasions. Them being in Buffalo and other drummers being spread out further along the Northeast won't make it easy, but it's something I want to do.
Three. Three things I want to do. :-) There are the trumpets that folks seem to like. While I've enjoyed playing with Lord Cai o'r Llyn, I want to build up the ranks. I mean, if two trumpets before court sound good, how about four? Or six? Hell, I'd love to get a guild going, if nothing else because I want to design the hearaldry! (I'm such a design geek) But it'd be really neat, and people would like it.
And, of course, in all that I do, I could teach about later, which is in my plans. But right now I need more doin, which means getting more off my tush and getting in a direction.
