Cities

Out of boredom, the top cities I've visited:

* New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - amazing atmosphere, very kind people. I'm not sure how much there is to do considering I spent most of my time on a project and walking through the city centre (without really visiting any museums or anything), but the city has this atmosphere that is just amazing. I can't explain it; I think Montmartre in Paris comes closest to it and maybe Rome at night.

* Paris, France - beautiful landmarks and despite the massive amount of tourists there was still a touch of that unique 'ambiance parisienne'  which I really loved. Also; loved the French ;-) (language; get your mind out of the gutter :P)

* Rome, Italy - HISTORY. There's history all around and the thing that always surprised me in Rome was how careless Romans (hihi) were about it. All the tourist trinkets are bordering on tacky but the typical Roman atmosphere and beautiful city centre make up for it :)

* Krakow, Poland - I've only been there a day (more specifically, only a morning) but from what I've seen it's a city with a nice old centre :)

* Wroclaw, Poland - Wroclaw is quite obviously Poland, Eastern-Europe: the atmosphere is very different from Western-European cities, a lot more grim and there's far less tourist-aimed attractions, both refreshing and a bit of a disappointment.

* Antwerp, Belgium - a beautiful city whose economic welfare of the 16 century is still noticeable in the city structure.

* Oxford, UK - a student city, quite obviously. Here in the Netherlands, universities are special but not outstanding - in Oxford, the university spirit was everywhere. This is partly because university buildings all over the city, specifically in the city centre - not so old, but still lovely in its own, quaintly British way - and maybe because I was there on a school trip. Still, after visiting Oxford I wanted to study in the UK for a long time (until the prices for doing so abruptly cured me...)

*Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Home, sweet home. Well, not exactly. Rhe city I live in is far smaller, less international, but it also lacks that atmosphere Amsterdam does have - the buzz of a city that never sleeps, in which anything's possible...
