In a recent
Slashdot article Ballmer talks about a lawsuit against Linux.
One of the quotes is just indicative of the asinine nature of these companies.
Microsoft filed more than 3000 new applications for software patents in 2005 and already owns more than 4000 patents, including many patents on fundamental, but trivial technologies, like double clicks."
Yes, you read that correctly, double clicks. That is just insane. What's next? A patent for
temper tantrums?
It is things like this that make me dislike Micro$oft as I do.
Many people claim I am jealous tey are making money and I am begrudging that. Nothing is further from the truth. I don't begrudge anyone for wanting to make money. What I dislike is that greed is driving them to such a point that they are resorting to petty bullshit to faatten their wallets.
If they were to say, we conceived the 8.3 file system, then fine. But to patent double clicking is like me saying that I am patening triple clicking because I put in an application and nobody else seems to have done that.
Where do we draw the line?
