Sticking my foot in it

Went to see the podiatrist this morning, a follow up visit.

At the first visit, the doctor had mentioned I had structural issues, pointing to how high the bone for my big toe sat in my right foot. I hadn’t realized that in his opinion, the structural issues are causing all the pain.

He thinks the only cure is surgery.

I’m not convinced. I will ( Read more... )

According to this doctor, special shoes and insoles will help but only in the short run. We'll see what another doctor says.

Another podiatrist recommended Marc A. Kravette at Virginia Mason as the surgeon who fixes other surgeon's mistakes. Dr. Kravette looked at my monster bunions and sent me downstairs to his colleague, Mark Reeves, for some superior orthotics. No surgery for me, at least not unless the bunions get even worse. Dr. Reeves is a sports medicine specialist. Either of them might give you a good second opinion.

My mother, two sisters, and great-aunt have all had bunion surgery; it's hereditary foot doom for me.

Good luck.

Thank you for the recommendation! We'll see which doctor is covered by my insurance.

I don't have bunions -- and after looking them up, don't want them either! Good luck with yours.

Next time we get together you'll have to show me how one "walks correctly."

I hope it can be treated non surgically. *hugs*

For me, it has to do with walking and using my big toe to push off. I was landing solidly in the center of the ball of my foot. Years (decades?) of doing that has taken its toll. But I'm also going to see if I can get more help with my walk, and make sure I'm doing it right.
