Three down - kind of

Tonight I “finished” the third story.

I like where the story went, how it wraps up. However, the start of the story doesn’t point at that ending.

I wrote this story out by hand. I have a couple of days to type it up. I suspect I’ll be doing a lot of redrafting along the way to get it pointing in the right direction, so the start of the story supports the ending.

If I typed out the story as it is, chances are it would be about 6000 words. I have no idea how long the redrafted version will be. Quite possibly longer.

I swear next week I am going to write a short story. Less than 4000 words. Though maybe not. I think I have an idea already - another story involving the character from the first story - Andy the ghost.

In other news, I went to hear Terry Pratchette speak last night. Much of what he said about the writing process is how I feel about the writing process, about how books accrete material, and how ideas just drop into your head, how serendipity happens when you work hard enough. It was a marvelous opportunity and I’m so glad I was able to go.
