The
2007 Emmy nominees are out and I'm surprised to find that there's quite a few good nominations. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but there were a few shows this past year that I found myself looking forward to each week. They were:
- Dexter Season 2 (Showtime)
- Flight of the Conchords (HBO)
- Big Bang Theory (CBS)
- South Park (Comedy Central)
And in the daily category (although I haven't really watched either in 2008):
- Daily Show (Comedy Central)
- Colbert Report (Comedy Central)
Dexter and Flight of the Conchords both have multiple nominations. Dexter S2 looks like it might be poised for a multiple category sweep, which is awesome. The music, cinematography, and acting from Michael C. Hall are all outstanding in this series. Dexter S1 did get awards last year for best title design and outstanding single camera editing but this crew definitely deserves more.
Big Bang Theory didn't make the list, which may be because they only had six episodes before the writer's strike last fall, so maybe that one will be considered next year. I don't know if Jim Parsons (who plays Sheldon) is an obnoxious, fast-talking, condescending whiz kid in real life, but if he isn't, that's some darn good acting!
Even South Park is in the running for the hour long Imaginationland special, but I have to give my vote to the Family Guy's Star Wars spoof Blue Harvest in that category.
Of course, if they actually give the "Outstanding Children's Program" to either High School Musical 2 or Hanna Montana, then there is no credibility in winning an Emmy.
