9/11 - the 5 year mark.

So today is 9/11 - the 5 year 'anniversary'.

I remember being a senior in high school, just getting out of zero hour band practice, talking to Luke and checking out the decorations the cheerleaders put up near the gym. Kirk Swanson - our class VP came over and asked if we had checked out the big screen in the commons, saying that a plane had just hit the WTC. We went and looked and sure enough, there ways a shot of the tower with smoke coming out of it.

I was taking 2 rock valley classes that were only in session every other day and this was an off day and since seniors had off campus privileges i went home, hoping to nap. The entire way home i was listen to JJO out of madison and they were only airing radio feed from some big news station. I got home and my mom was glued to FoxNews - something that continued for many many months in my house... I tried to nap, but couldnt and watched the news. I remember watching the footage of the towers collapsing and remember hearing that united plane had gone down in the middle of some field or something.

I went back to school and one of my classes was held in the commons, so we could keep watching the news, and in all my other classes all we did was watch the tvs.

I remember Luke being stressed out too cuz his brother Charlie was in the Air Force and his family couldnt get in contact with him - they eventually found out they had stationed him in London.

I remember when my dad got home, him, my mom and myself all drove our cars over to the citgo and filled up our tanks - we had just gotten there right before everyone else showed up to do the same.

It was a crazy day.

It was also my friend Tony's 18th birthday. Sucked to be him...

Where were you 5 years ago, today?
