2006, not a good year so far

well I have decided that 2006 is not going to be my good year. I may as well curl up in a cupboard now and just emerge in 2007, hopefully unharmed.

let me explain. as many of you know i spent new year in laura harpins bathroom, being rather ill. i shall gloss over the details, but lets just say I thought at midnight, 'oh well, things can only get better from here.' i was very wrong.

yesterday, driving home from watford, i was in a car crash and wrote off my car.

luckily i'm ok, just very stiff and bruised. got mild whiplash and im pretty shaken up, as you can imagine, but no lasting damage.

bascially what happened was i was doing 70 on the motorway, in the slow lane. it was dark and wet. the car in front of me suddenly slammed on its brakes cos he was about 2 miss his exit. i slammed on my brakes 2 and skidded across the wet ground, bracing myself 2 go up the bumper of a people carrier (who would have come off worse i wonder???). luckily i missed the car in front by inches. However, the car behind me was not so lucky.

the driver slammed into the back of me and i skidded off the road, fortunately into a well placed layby. Managed 2 miraculously stop the car and got out to survey the damage. i nearly fainted when i saw it.

my back windscreen was shattered, by bumper and boot folded in almost halfway, my boot had flown open and the bumper was hanging off. my right back wheel was jammed by the crumpled metal (although somehow my hazard lights were still working).

the scariest thing was what had happened 2 my seat. It had gone off the rollers and the back had been flung towards the back seat on the impact, and was jammed down in the horizontal position. apparently the fact that i had been clinging on to the steering wheel bracing for impact is what stopped me being thrown back with the seat. I didnt think much of it until i heard the guy in the recovery vehicle talking to the police man in the car that showed up, assuming that 'the ambulance had already taken the citroen driver 2 hospital'.....

anyway, the woman who crashed in2 me was really lovely. although it wasnt really her fault, she did all she could 2 avoid me, technically she was travelling 2 close and she basically admitted liability. we had a great chat whilst we waited 4 my dad 2 come pick me up, she told me all about the fact that she wanted 2 leave her husband...nice.

so my car got carted off 2 a ploice depot. i had 2 take a breathaliser test, which i passed and got 2 keep the blowy tube thing (!). the police recommended i went 2 A and E so my parents took me. They put a collar on me and i had three xrays because of the speed i was possibly doing on impact they had 2 make sure there was no damage. the docotr who saw me was so so so so fit and i was like 'omg this is so embarrasing, i have mascara marks under my eyes from where ive been crying!'

anyway, everything checked out fine so i just have 2 take painkillers. my back and neck r really stiff and i hav some bruising from my seatbelt, but the worst thing is the shock. I was so lucky that i was on my own in the car, if i had had anyone sitting behind my seat...

i guess thats the worst thing, i keep thinking 'what if...', which i know i shouldnt but it is still really scary.

so now i have the wonderful task of insurance claims and finding a new car. jolly good.

as i said before, hopefully from now this year can only get better!!!
